Samus reaction after the announcement of Metroid Prime Federation Force for the 3DS

I mean, what we look actually could be disgusting, but there is a lot of potential behind it. Not in ist current form, but the premise, the main idea is actually very interesting.

As you must know, I like Other M and I firmly believe there's a lot of potential behind it, but that's another topic. The comparision goes as MP Federation Force has also clever idea of expanding the universe. Thinking about it, I wouldn't be mad about the game even in the absence of a mainline Metroid game, but it needs to do some things different:

  • Make it a Wii U game. Yes. Imagine playing a multiplayer FPS on the Wii U with the good online structure of games like Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros for Wii U. On top of that, there's an already big online comunnity in the console. And the icing in the cake: with the beautiful graphics that the Wii U homeconsole can do.

  • Change the artstyle. The chibi simply doesn't fit the Metroid Universe. Maybe they are trying to appeal to kids, but I'm sure with a realistic artstyle like Other M  or Prime 3 Corruption on Wii U could have sold way way better. Instead of what we can see, reuse the Prime artstyle, use designs from the 3 Prime games in beautiful HD graphics.

  • A good single player campaign that can be played local or online co-op. It would have great content: mission-based single player, multiplayer local and online maps.

  • Go all dark, mature and twisted. Metroid is not the kind of franchise that sells on colorful or joyful styles (actually, the franchise doesn't sell much, but..) so going in that way will be an interesting contrast to Splatoon. Having another multiplayer online game but opposed to it will help both games. If you are bored of the gritty Federation Force go for Splatoon. If you are bored of the colors, go for Federation Force.

  • Reuse few (FEW) scenarios from the past, like Pirates's Homeworld or Torvus Bog. Obviously, the atmosphere, not the level design. The nostalgia will hit us.

  • Expand on the Metroid Universe throught the Galactic Federation. In MP3 Corruption and Other M, the Galactic Federation played a big role in the game, now it will focus solely on them and their adventures throught the universe.

  • Samus appears in the game. But only in the final mission and no playable. She will help with her awesome skills and help you. Meanwhile, your character is merely a human. And as a any human, he has limited skills. The contrast between the most famous bountyhunter against a simple soldier.

  • Mix elements from other genres. RPG? You can customize your character. You can upgrade your weapons.

  • New weapons. You don't have a suit like Samus, but you can have guns that can freeze (like in Other M), or one based on plasma. Granades, maybe missiles.

  • Throw is (alongside past games scenarios) into new dreamy worlds. Like the one with the Galaction Federation:

I firmly believe a game like this ine would have gotten a better reception and will be good bussiness wise on banking on the online comunnity after the boom of Splatoon. Even to the point of seeing a future for this spin-off in the next platforms.

So, which ideas will you change on MP Federation Force to make it more appealing to you? Do you think there's potential?

PS: I don't want to cancel the game. As a customer I can choose to simply not buy it.

Does anyone or has anyone ever really wanted a handheld Metroid game?

Fans of Metroid Fusion salute you.

And no. Federation Force is not a terrible idea, it's just terrible timing. We've been a long time without a proper Metroid game (even longer for 2D Metroid), and this raising people's hopes to then result into a sports spinoff, it's dissapointing at least. Doesn't hurt anyone, but still dissapointing.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Me, I loved Metroid 2, Fusion & Zero Mission.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

At the very least, the negative reaction to this game has highlighted the demand for a new Metroid game.

Terrible timing, terrible artstyle and terrible hardware choice.

They knew about that since the beggining of the gen. But they choose unwisely.

It's not a bad idea, just not one that people wanted

Sort of like TriForce Heroes, but to a bigger extent..

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

The main issue involves power. Having the ai controlled samus at the end of the game for example, would be too much and give instability in frame rate.

The best fix would have been to have the game done on the wii u/NX. The 3ds is just too weak for a proper fps (along with uncomfortable).

Having the wii u's tech would have allowed for better graphics, more players, and a deeper/stronger story. It also would have been a better alternative to the colorful splatoon.

Yep, basically my thoughts.

Well it went to 3DS for sales I am sure.

The game is going to flop, regardless of 3DS userbase.

Only bad thing about this game is Metroid in name of the game because people really want Metroid Prime and they are getting spinoff. But that doesn't mean that idea about game or game itself is bad.
