Forums - Gaming - Back in the CoD 4/WaW days, did you think CoD would be where it is today?

I was a fan of CoD, CoD2, and CoD3. It wasn't until playing the MP beta of CoD4 that I become a huge fan. And I knew it would be huge. I knew it would take over Halo on Xbox. I was very much looking forward to Halo 3 until the day I played that MW beta.

HOWEVER, did I think that 7 or 8 years later it would still be huge seeing yearly releases racking up tens of millions each release? No. I think anyone who says they saw that, either has too much time on their hands or are fibbing.

I mean.. especially after MW2 and CoD Ghosts. Those games were so imbalanced (MW2) or downright awful (Ghosts).

I will say, I think the franchise will be declining soon. Partly because of other quality alternatives, but also because there's really not much more they can do. It's become too crazy, too much shit in the game. They have one good developer, Treyarch. One ok developer, Sledgehammer. And the rotting shell of Infinity Ward minus all the people who left to make Titanfall. The games have already started going downhill.

Like a lot here, (and I played every CoD since PS2) the thought of where the franchise is headed/evolve never crossed my mind. Black Ops 3 is amazing though, much better than the past 2 games they've released.

I didn't think much of the CoD 4 or WaW days. I'm rather amused that we've now come full circle and are seeing the series reintroduce features that were present 10 years ago. Maybe in another 10 years we'll finally see something unique to the series.

Not really, but WaW made me understand that this would turn into a series that I would very quickly lose interest in. For me, the first one is still the best by far, followed by Modern Warfare and CoD 2.
