I am a big story Fan when it comes to FF games so 10 wins this one for me. In XII, the cover shows that "Vaan" is the supposed main character but I never ever felt attach to him at all. And XII was the first FF game that made Summon "useless". I never wasted my time doing any Summoning. But I really like the fighting in XII, but because of everyone capable of using any weapon at all, I never really felts like one character was precious.

I would argue summoning is useless in most FF's. Especially 8: I finished it never summoning one at all.

A for the Vaan thing... yeah he is not rally the main character. He is techincally an avatar character for the player: you learn about the world of ivalice in time with him. In that sense, I think he works but he yeah its not the most viable story telling choice.

In 8 I would break my fingers and the controller for the extra boost when summoning lol. But at the end of the game when you get all special moves and all ultimate weapons it kind of becomes uselss, unless you summon Eden. From 4 to 10 summoning was big for me.

haha I hear ya!

I like the summons for the stats boosts and just used limits to get through things myself.

The thing again about 12 as I am playing the game I can feel all the potentiel, the new fighting mecanics, those ultimate bosses with lot of HP for quest. The very very big world to explore, but if only they had the "main character" and the story right (in my opinion), it would have been the best FF for me. I guess most of my dissapointment is also based on my high expectation too.

I like the active combat of FF12 far more than FF10's turn based system (although, it is one of the better turn-based systems implemented in an RPG) I also like the story more on FF12 in that it is a more political/war driven story and has very little romance/sappyness which i could never stand in FF10. The only thing I don't like from FF12 is the cast of characters. Aside from the pirate guy (i forgot his name) and the bunny chick, the rest of the party is pretty meh (specially vaan's ridiculous custom design, seriously, what is that?)

Overall, having played both, I like FF12 more than FF10.

10 for its story, gameplay, and music.

12 had a decent battle system but I wasn't too keen on the music and the story is a practically copy & pasted OT Star Wars script

It's a hard choice, but I got to choose X.
Both are great though.

...and both are below IX on my personal list.

Best story, 10.

Best gameplay and cool-er characters 12.

I liked the turn based from 10, and at first I disliked the active action oriented gameplay from 12, but after a few hours, and understandign well the gambit part, 12 took the price by far.

X on every aspect.

It seems that if you like one, you don't like the other. And its understandable, since X was the last "traditional" entry In the series. But man... That game was unbalanced and boring as heck. I couldn't careless about five out of seven or six characters. Tuna and Tidus remain the most annoying leads I've seen in a JRPG. And while the battle system was NICE, (Loved how you can switch characters at any time), some of the songs in the soundtrack are GORGEOUS, and the world was beautiful to look at... It was just boring.

Not going to lie, the gameplay was what kept me playing. I wanted to beat the game; not to see the conclusion to their journey... But because I had paid for the game and wanted to beat it.

I haven't played XII yet, but it looks much more mature and somewhat "realistic", which I'm all up for after the boring love story that was X.
