Not surprising since Sony basically took M$'s playbook from last gen and flipped the script by putting major $$$ behind the big name AAA shooters with exclusive marketing rights for big FPS franchises like COD, Destiny and now Battlefront.

This is also why the FPS genre as a whole is no longer being derided by Sony fans now that shooters are driving console sales and lighting up the software charts on the PS4.

This thread has taught me that a lot of people here seems to have some strange hate for shooters, which I personally cannot understand. First-Person Shooters in particular seem to earn a lot of undeserved criticism.

I feel this thread acts as another page of history within teh warz since last gen there was plenty of contempt from Sony fans towards shooters and exclusive deals along with quality and quantity ratio, this gen it;s the other way around and it;s almost like the lesson hasn't been learned at all. The one possible difference out of all of this is that next time the other two might actually remain humble and put on a great show which will leave the 3rd one to either start acting humble or repeat what happened last gen and start hating everything that doesn't go their way. I honestly want the other two to actually blow peoples socks off so we can go back to everything being at the same pace rather than two losers and one winner, that's what killed this gen for me entirely.

So basically screw Nintendo. As long as Microsoft and Sony release very similar consoles, you'll be happy. Nothing like healthy competion to bring innovation to the industry.   

I'm not saying screw Nintendo though, I actually prefer them over the other two for what they've done for us and what they continue to do that the other two revel in. I prefer it when all 3 are neck and neck than one winner since it means less competition and of course more soils for one group and gloating to go with it.

Well given that top ten sales list of the PS3 where 6/10 were shooters, 5/10 were CoD, and three of the top 5 were CoD including #3 and #2, I'd say the Playstation already has enough shooters as it is heh

The hate mostly stems from certain gamers' resentfulness of the popularity explosion of online FPS's on consoles during last gen, which helped pave the way for the 360's success and also relegated some of their favorite genres such as JRPGs and 3D platformers to the back burner for most of last gen with only a few exceptions.

But notice how over the past couple of years the hate for shooters isn't nearly as bad as it was during the peak of last gen.  Hmmmm... wonder why that could be?

It has to be because shooters are selling more than any genre like NightDragon said. When something gets all or most of the focus and attention, it tends to irk some people.

I know I know I'm sorry same here. But don't forget turok 2 and 3, rage wars, quake 2 and... well the list is endless really. N64 was a great shooter console

Yeah you know that genre that was revolutionised on N64.....
