Personally I'm not a fan of him. They should have gotten a different announcer for the non japanese verisons of the game. The way he said
Maio and Samus always bothered me...

Agreed. The MELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE on the opening is freaking awesome, but as a whole I'm not a fan of the announcer in Melee. He's definitely not worse than the one from Brawl, though... everytime I try to play that game I cringe when I pick my character and hear "FAX".

maybe I'm just biased from how much time I spent hearing his voice and associated it with some of the best couch multiplayer til street fighter 4 but yeah we did laugh at some bits in melee, "Doctor Mow-wrrrrryyyyyy-o"
