Forums - Gaming Discussion - More Vita Games than 3DS Games

Okay this quote tree is going to get ridiculously huge. You're completely missing the point I'm making and saying "it didn't sell well" and "I've not heard of it" are not actually the arguments you think they are. Let's just come back in 15 years time.

I guarantee you'll start seeing articles questioning why the Vita never got the traction "it deserved" similar to the nostalgic look backs on the Dreamcast now.

You mention sales, you do realise how pitiful games like Jet Set Radio, Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia sold don't you? Now they are fondly looked back on with desires up successors. Just as you have not heard of games like Danganronpa (which shame on you! to be quite honest though it does explain your ignorance as to what the Vita catalogue offers) the Vita has a fair few titles that will be looked fondly back on.

I know Danganronpa, it's not even in the same ballpark as the games I mentioned. Skies of Arcadia is also on the GC yet not worthy enough to be on my list of GC games. Shenmue is loved by an extremely vocal minority on the internet. The game isn't even good, it's quite bad in fact. It's remembered for being one of the first open worlds in video games. That's what they call impact on the gaming industry.

Vita just doesn't have an interesting enough catalogue to be remembered like the GC (or even the DC), but you'll see that for yourself in 10 years. If people don't know about the games now, they're not going to know them 10 years later. The Vita will be forgotten like the Gamegear.

I mentioned sales, popularity, longevity, impact and influence on the gaming industry and critic/mainstream reception. Your Vita games score mediocre across the board. Jet Set Radio was the first cel-shaded game, which is why it's remembered, as it was a trendsetter.

Lol it's representative of nothing.

The Vita does a fantastic job of making me want it, but not need it.
That, and 3DS games (good ones, like the Atlus JRPGs, or games like MK7 that get midlife crisis, er, price drops) somehow drop in price faster than Vita ones here, for some reason, making the 3DS a far better value here.

But, damn, I found a treasure trove of good DS games a few days ago with everything good at discounted prices...I counted at least a dozen titles I was interested in, so no Vita just yet.

Nope. That's just your opinion.

And this so-called "vocal minority" managed to make Shenmue 3 the most backed game in kickstarter history. Pretty sure most companies would love to have such "vocal minorities" as fanbases.

So did the OP fix the list yet? It seems like the Vita list has indie games but the 3DS doesn't?

And I guess it isn't that surprising that the 3DS line up is thinning if the NX launches next year and has a handheld and home console form.

Vita is meant for people that die for Japanese games. Otherwise, major disappointment for people that prefer more than that.

I prefer 3DS because the amount of games that are amazing on it is incredible.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

More like over 1200 identified games. Hentai.

The game's still going to flop hard, just like the first two Shenmue's. Only hardcore gamers back games on kickstarter, they're the definition of vocal minority. And Shenmue has aged badly, that is no opinion. Shenmue 3 is also the only kickstarter game that ever got announced at an E3 press conference of one of the big 3. And money Shenmue collected on kickstarter is peanuts for a budget a modern open world game needs. I really doubt this game will do well commercially and criticically.

Yeah, because the 3DS has soooo many Non-Japanese hits:

Except a lot of these games are more popular in the West than in Japan. Nintendo doesn't make niche games that are only targeted at a Japanese market. It was pretty obvious what he meant.
