Isn't this true for every game? Only some games give you more options than others.
I somewhat agree with him in the sense that I often dislike games that are heavily centred around the story with little or mediocre gameplay. However, this is because I think many of them have a story which is not that good (there are exceptions of course), not because there is something intrinsically wrong being a linear story focussed game.
Boundaries between games and (animated) movies are fading. I don't think that's a problem. A story is as good as its script (well, that and production, acting, of course), the way in which this is told does not really matter that much. Is a game in which you only need to press 'A' to continue and little else still a game? or an animated movie? Irrelevant, if it is good it is good.
