But you're forgetting one big fact. MS helped fund the development of the game, they are publishing it, not Square Enix. This deal is similar to Sony's deal with Street Fighter 5, except Sony is keeping it console exclusive. I'm sure sony didnt help fund this game because it is a direct competitor to their Uncharted franchise.
MS saw an oppourtunity, and took it. regardless if it fails, MS helped make the game possible.

No,no and no.Please checkyour facts.Square nor CD ever said that MS is funding the game or publishing it.Amazon has Square listed as the publisher and so does every other site.Stop giving MS credit for something that they did not do and admit that they just money hatted the game because of their lack of exclusive franchise ownership.

You need to look at that Amazon listing again it clearly say by Microsoft under the title.

excerpt from the article.
Xbox head of marketing, Aaron Greenberg, has confirmed that Microsoft is the publisher for Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One.
The news was announced via Twitter when a user asked Greenberg who was publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider; Microsoft or Square Enix?
Although there are no details about what the arrangement entails – such as what elements of the game Microsoft is covering, be it marketing, development, or distribution costs – we reached out to Square Enix and received the following statement.
"Yes, Microsoft will be publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox. Microsoft has always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and they will get behind this game with more support across development, marketing and retail than ever before, which we believe will be a step in continuing to build the Tomb Raider franchise as one of the biggest in gaming."
