Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo made potato-chan a midget [Xenoblade X censorship]

This one doesn't bother me like Fatal Frame because I expect this game to actually be good. It won't need the t&a to get me to buy it. Still sucks but it's a kid that's younger than my daughter. I have plenty of other characters to strip down to their skivvies.

I find it funny that some people are OK with changing the age to 18 (which could impact the story) but not OK with removing the outfit (which most likely doesn't impact the story). If you find taking out the outfit as censorship then why don't you consider changing the age as censorship?

For anyone with eyes and a brain's standards.

nope, stop puting your american mindset into everything you see. Espacially into video-games not made by Americans. Asian women and also a lot of white women with the age of 18 and above can look like this character.

Well coming from someone who is not an American ,and has never lived in America, I fully agree that trying to find ways to sexualize a character ,that is clearly meant to be a minor, is disgusting. but hey everyone entitled to their own opinions.

so why are you and others buying XCX then and supporting these devolopers who think its right to devolope something like this in the first place? If you think its wrong according to you, in your country then its wrong everywhere including in japan where it isnt cesnored?

Youre from Bahams which is practley a US colony by the way.

Why does  it even matter that 18 year olds can look like that when her age is stated as 13? You would effectively still be calling a 13 year old 18 no matter how other women can look.

I honestly don't see the controversy here. The outfit is simply UGLY and weird, it doesn't matter if it's on a 15 year old girl or not, I find it very ugly and that's all. Also, I wouldn't guess her age, and she surely doesn't look like a fifteen year old to me. She looks like a weird robot.

Do people still criticize games such as grand theft auto today? Because IIRC you can shoot people there, "innocent people". You can shoot anyone, among other crazy things. Are we even talking about the weird thinking that killing anyone in a videogame it's ok but seeing boobs is wrong?

XCX is about exploring a new world full of creatures, fighting them and stuff like that. For me it wouldn't matter if that outfit was in the game, I would never use it because it's ugly. Maybe I don't have a dirty mind or I don't know, because I don't see any sexualization in that. The game is not about sex, or involves any of that, it's an adventure game, like the movie avatar for example.

Do you really see that as offensive? Would any of you find her so sexy and so hot, that you would feel the urge to wank like crazy monkeys looking at a videogame character dressed like that in this particular game?
Like, look a discovery of a superb view! And right there is a unique monster, level 45, I guess we would get a lot of experience if we kill them, should we? Oh yeah, yeah, that's nice but look at this new outfit, it's so sexy I need to jerk off!! That makes NO sense to me. I really don't get it. The game isn't even trying to focus on any sex aspect to sell! It's just a stupid outfit, and an embarrasing one for being so damn ugly.

Guys, I would understand the outrage if the game was a sex simulator where you could play as an old man having sex with women of all ages, with explicit images and disturbing stuff with underage girls dressed like that. Yeah, that would be offensive and I would NEVER buy it, and I could even say it'd still be a videogame, but in my beliefs there are some lines that shouldn't be crossed, but then again, it's OK to play as someone who kills people, where you see them bleeding and dying and it's fine, so maybe the problem is bigger than this stupid outfit, think about it.

First of all the Bahamas is not practically a colony of the US, the Bahamas was never a part of the US nor will it ever be. Get your facts straight before making uneducated and unconstructive comments. It is a British commonwealth and is likely to remain that way in the foreseeable future.

I never said I was buying the game nor did I say that it is wrong for all cultures, I don't know where you got that from. Somethings are simply not acceptable in certain cultures and that is why Nintendo of America and ,to a lesser extent, Europe censor certain things.

This is not censoreship, this is localization. This is not ESRB deciding they can't put this in, or Germany deciding they can't put this in. This is Nintendo's team who makes changes in order to make the game marketable in other markets; including translation, rewrites, and changes in content. It is not censoreship just because the localization team decided to remove something that Europeans would find inappropriate, it is making the game more marketable in Europe, because if they put stuff like that in the game, it will hurt its sales - and it is the localization team's job to make sure the game sells well in other markets.

This was the correct call by localization. If you are against it, provide a good argument as to why you think a child should have this sexualizing outfit, and saying "I don't like censoreship" is both a fallacious and a strawman argument.

Came here to say pretty much the same thing. Censorship specifically refers to suppression by an external body (government, ESRB, etc.) and this is something else entirely. People need to learn how to use words correctly.

yeah, i think this is the right call. In fact, i'm not afraid to say that the first thing that pops in my head in repects to people attacking this change is "man i hope they're like 13 or 14 or else they're totally coming off like pedophiles". Maybe she's an older character that's just supposed to look like a pubecent girl, but that doesn't change that she does look that way.

This right here should be end of the thread and these stupid censorship arguement. It won't be but it should be, there are real world examples of censorship out there going on today in other countries across the globe. Complaining about a game company doing it with some fanservice is more of an example of a 'First World Problem'.
