Forums - Gaming - Who is your favorite video game reviewer?... Other than yourself

Do you have one?

I don't really have one. The most entertaining one is definitely Yahtzee.
I also like to listen to Jim and TB talk about games, which aren't strictly speaking reviews. I can't remember the last time I read an actual review.

My favorite reviewer is myself, because everyone else can't be trusted.

Yahtzee of course. I've never actually bought a game based on any one reviewer, so my opinion of reviewers is purely for entertainment value. And most reviewers are not entertaining at all.

When a game gets a good metascore, I still base my buying decision on word of mouth. Same for when a game has a low-ish metascore. Or I am committed to buying a game before it even comes out. Like Uncharted 4, Dragon Age and Mass Effect 4. A game like Horizon Zero Dawn, I'll be waiting to get impressions from a range of non-reviewer folks here and elsewhere before I commit.

I was surprised to see Shadow of Mordor get such a high metascore, but I was still not going to buy it. Then people 'round these parts and other places started giving it a lot of praise and only then I thought, OK best give it a try then.

I only like my own reviews. That's basically the gist of it. I don't bother with reviews for the most part. I much prefer the nearly dead practice of demos. Thankfully Steam has made it so you can demo basically any game for less than two hours and get a full refund if you don't like it. Innovation.

But yeah, me, myself, and I.

Greg miller and Colin Moriarty. Haven't seen much of them though since they left IGN.

I was going to say those two aswell. They do KindaFunny now, which I actually like better than when they were at IGN. You should check it out. Though, it is somewhat Sony/Nintendo centric.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Oh, then you should know that they started a new PS podcast and it's awesome. It's called PS I Love You.

Basileous Productions - I like their reviews and their 9 category scoring system. Along with the fact that they list the pros and cons. Sometimes they showcase screenshots and even link to their youtube videos.

I want to be just like them when I grown up ^_^.

They're for the birds!

Though the 9 category scoring system is pretty nice.

Back between like 1998-2001, there was a site called hotgames. That website was the only website where the reviews actually matched up with my opinions 100% of the time. IGN was good in the early 2000's as well before being bought out.

Game reviews these days are too corrupt to follow imo.
