Well, it's still better than what they had before but doesn't sound like it will have the only feature that I actually care about

Which feature were you looking for?

It took long enough and it's really just borrowing what's been done elsewhere but it does sound like a significant improvement. I remember saying they needed to have this in place before the Wii U launched but at least they'll have it before the NX pops forth.

I'd guess that the mobile deal provided the real impetus. I wonder if they got outside help on the setup.

Hope the friends thing doesn't end up being more convoluted than necessary.

That's not the case at all. The mobile deal came after. DeNA was originally only purchased to create My Nintendo/My Account. Mobile games came as a result of that, not the other way around.

“Our approach was more about looking at their strengths, and then looking at our strengths, and when we get together we can do something bigger. Our initial discussions were around memberships and backend systems. Through this discussion we said that if we build this backend, we should obviously work on a game. And if we’re making a game, we should use Nintendo IPs.”

The idea that DeNA was purchased to make mobile games is the most annoying misconception out today. They were purchased to help with the unified platform, which is My Nintendo. Mobile games came as a logical conclusion, since mobile is part of that platform.

Also, it's very clear that this does more than borrow. It's more encompasing than any other account service of thie calibur.

I suppose there might be some relation to 'Receive points by using and playing games or purchasing them' but not necessarily.

– Use your account in conjunction with the theme park, as well as theaters and stores
– Will provide membership service benefits in other real-life facilities such as theme parks, movie theaters and retail outlets

WOW! This two points sounds VERY interesting....... Not really sure how it would work but damn! im HYPED!!!! Times are changing!

Those are the most interesting parts to me, too. The only things I didn't predict. Very smart of them. I can see you getting coupons to the theme park by playing NX games. And mobile games. Very interesting indeed.

Sounds good, but the thing I am most worried about is if you have to pay for subscription..

...Obviously not. Nintendo literally said they want to get this thing into as many hands as possible, and Miitomo literally can't be payed without it.

"Here's a mobile game you need to pay a yearly subscription to play even though we said it's free to start."

Obviously not.

More encompassing than Microsoft Account?  Are you serious?

Does miscrosoft accounts offer discounts on themeparks, movies, and stores that are part of their ecosystem? They don't? You sure? Alright then.
