Forums - Gaming - Have publishers gone too far with Pre-order bonuses, day one DLCs and season passes?

Yes, wich is why i don't pre-order games that have a mess of a pre-order campaign.

I pre-ordered Fallout 4 and Xenoblade X. Both of wich have no bonuses for pre-ordering as far as i know. I will pre-order Deus Ex i think, but i'm not in a huge hurry after that stunt they pulled. Regardless, if they try to mess you up with pre-order campaign you can just wait till the last day before launch to pre-order. It will make little difference compared to buying at launch for them and you will get the extras.

Its not completely out of hand. While there is companies that do absurdities with dlc like EA, there is still companies like Bethesda and Nintendo that do dlc mostly right.Sure, they slip here and there(Smash bros dlc for example), but mostly get it right. But the ones that do it wrong, they do it badly. The new Battlefront season pass is a complete insult to any gamer. And its probably going to sell well ugh

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Yes, but unless they come in an amazing collectors edition i'm ok with it (ie. CoD BO3 Juggernog Edition).

God, that image is so funny, but sadly true.

It really has gone far.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I don't pay attention a lot to pre-order bonuses not their season passes anymore, as they have gotten out of hand. I miss days when they reward people with cool things like artbooks, soundtracks, and other goodies. At least ATLUS still does that...

Also, Heroes hasn't been good since 3 anyways ; )

Seems like the FPS keep getting more and more expensive. People will be spending more money on CoD or Battlefront than one would paying for a year of WoW.

Also RPG's if we go with Witcher 3 and generally the oens EA and others handle.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I mean if US gamers weren't absolutely hell bent on keeping games at the insanely cheap $60, we might not have as much focus on forced post-release content. Even an extra ten or twenty dollars per sale would go a long way to making more games release as finished products. It's insane to think that games are still priced almost historically low here, when publishers could feasibly be charging $90+ if not for the inevitable boycotts.

Edit: This isn't to put the blame on gamers here, either. Some companies absolutely fuck up and go to far, of course. As a whole, though, a moderate (US) price hike would do the entire industry a lot of good, even if those certain companies would often just take advantage of it. It wouldn't last long, as tolerance for a buggy mess of a game or immediate plans for DLC will drop when we're all investing more into each purchase

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Yes they have. That's why I wait for the GoTY version now.

Witcher 3 actually had 16 free DLC packages and a worthy expansion pack. It's nothing like EA.
