lol no.

Nintendo has yet to release a large scale open world game (Xenoblade X or zelda u being the first)

Not only do they abhor large scale online multiplayer, they don't even have the experience to make a large scale open world mmo in time to make momentum for the NX

They have no reason to build the game by themselves when their are dozens of talented AAA teams who would never dare say no to collabarting on a Pokemon RPG. StarFox, Smash were both assisted by external development teams. In such a case we also wouldn't know the length of development because we won't know its in development until they announce it (like any well kept secret).

I don't think we'll an MMO though

The rise of NX will sign the death of WiiU , sad

The WiiU is already on life support...

But it's not official yet, they didnt disconnect the life plug

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

My reason are:

  1. Fans have been asking for this for a while, but nintendo only does spin offs on consoles for pokemon. Now they wont have a choice but to make a mainline pokemon on consoles.
  2. MMO might not have been possible before, due to handheld specs limitation, but now it should be way simple, or to at least make group questing.
  3. There is a massive following on pokemon, with the higest selling being the original yellow/blue/red selling 31m and the most recent x/y selling 13m.
  4. Pokemon is by anual now and its an aniversary next year so there could be something big anounced and this could be it.
  5. Most early fans droped it cuz it got stale, but this would call a lot of old fans back to the series.
Its like a garantee bolckbuster for the NX. It only has to do near x/y numbers to already beat the wii u and set it on track to succes. I know I might be reaching, but its a possibility and I would like to know what others think. SO discuss.

The problem with your reasoning is that NX is still a handheld. This doesnt mean it will make NX more popular, it just means that consoles sales will probably be stronger and handheld sales weaker when compared directly to WiiU and 3DS.

NX is both a handheld and a console, I do get what you mean that if one would prbably op for just one and not both, but my point is that many pokemon fans have been asking for a consolo version of pokemon, so if the same game comes out in both, most fan would op for the console.... maybe.

Of course Pokemon will be a killer app for the NX, but I don't necessarily think that means an MMO would happen, or is the way to go...
We have no reason to think that Nintendo would do the concept justice...
But they definitely need an incredible launch lineup...
The Wii U didn't have the best showing and the 3DS was even worse...
Perhaps the reason we're not getting showered with games right now is because they've made launch titles a priority...
I can't say I have enough confidence in Nintendo to actually think that though...
Let's hope they've learned their lesson...

FOr what people call MMO this days all they need to do is add a hub world and call it a day. They just need to add something besides just battles to the pokemon multyplayer formula.

Maybe not large scale, but it dosent need to be large scale, it could be in the scale of destiny of a ma of 6 players going around the same world. I havent seen more than 6 players in any world of destiny yet and its consider an MMO. As long as it has a hub where players can gather and see each other would make it good enoufgh.

destiny also took half a billion to make. Nintendo would not spend anywhere near that much money for one game.

To add to what was said already. Well thats activision and bungy, they love to waste money so they can later add season passes, micro transactions, a multitud off lame little expansion and tons of marketing. Nintendo has always been conservative and gets better performance and quality for a lot less money than the rest.

What you said would be the difference between 500 million and 400/300 million. I doubt Nintendo would go near 100 million, especially with their lack of expertise with mmo

Yes, but Nintendo does not mess with their IP so easily. Smash was a co effort with soul caliber team, who are really experienced with fighting games. Namco doesn't have an award winning mmo team.

I'd also wait till Starfox comes out before saying it will be a successful partnership.

assuming nintendo finds someone (or decides to make the game themselves), a huge amount of money would need to be spent, something that Nintendo is really not comfortable doing

might?

Nintendo has dominated the handhelds for decades and has had plenty of competitive home consoles. of course if they combine handheld and home console they are going to get a portion of the market share

if you add up Wii U + 3DS they have been competitive in this generation, especially when you consider the fact that the Vita has underwhelmed and Microsoft doesn't compete in the handheld space

How about going with Sega's Phantasy Star Online team then?
