Forums - Sony - Sony Confirms It's Stopped First-Party Vita Development

I'd like to know if people would be so nice if Nintendo did the same with the WiiU/3DS. Just saying.

why do you assume people wouldnt be so nice if nintendo would cut first party support for the wii u? there is no reason to do this to the 3DS, as its doingrelatively well, thus it would be understandable if people would get pissy.

and there are plenty of posts/threads by people who blame sony for the downfall of the vita pretending they had no reason at all and doing it just to cause aggrevation.

Yeah. Sony dropping the Vita, while Nintendo dropping the Wii U

It might sound bad but its for the best.

Nintendo hasn't done with Wii U, yet. Maybe next year.

Vita will probably have longer software support when all is said and done.

But I think this thread is about first party games only.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

Like others have said... One could easily deduce this on their own a few years back.

As long as the third party support keeps coming I am fine with it.

I thought this was already announced before?

Shocking news? Lol. They better. Who wants to use a handheld in this age anyway? I better play games in big TV instead of small screen.

Apparently millions of people. And just look at Japan and there you'll find ur answer.

Exactly, as it should be.The handheld market of a dedicated gaming device is dead with even the 3DS selling less than it's predecessor and the next will sell even less. There is no longer any place for a dedicated handheld gaming device and now Sony can focus whole heartedly on home console since the PS2 days before the PSP.Everyone should be happy about this as handheld never delivered a high quality gaming experience and was always limited.

I gotta say that I disagree with you. I've had many great experinces with my handheld consoles when I used to play them and never felt limited as the titles were almost always designed for the consideration that it was a handheld title.

The real issue here is that Sony fans are passing this off as nothing and trying to turn this into a positive thing where as it's actually pretty tradgic considering that the Vita had so much potential. Sony is officially giving up on its handleld, and most would say rightly so being that it's not doing too well. However, if this were Ninteno everyone would be in an uproar and put Ninteno on a stake.

The absolute most tradgic issue at hand is that there is now less innovation in the handheld sector, a sector that's dying off and no one seems to care. Maybe one day we'll get the ultimate gaming cellphone (one that doesn't involve linking a PS3 controller to) but until then the handheld market is rapidly disintegratingy with no indication that either console manufacturer is doing anything about it.

And by the way, the bias in this thread is so strong it reminds me of that one time I went down on my ex who didn't take a shower and smelled of freshly caught fish. She became my ex for a reason, you know.

ugh that is the worst.

This news is so shocking that I am glad I am already sitting down...

But seriously this is something we all knew and hopefully it means Sony will actually put some effort into 1st party PS4 games in the near future.

The only frustrating thing about this is that SCEJ have had some pretty decent successes in the Japanese market (Freedom Wars being their highest selling game since White Knight Chronicles), but that's all thrown out the window because PS4.

I get why the western studios aren't developing for it. There's no money to be made from western handhelds that aren't Nintendo any more (and even that's shrinking). But in Japan there is a market - and a market that was embracing first-party stuff too.

Ah well. At least it looks like we're going to get a last hurrah of localizations in 2016, and for all that the situation regarding Sony continually shitting on Vita is frustrating, at least it's had a good run with plenty of games I've loved.

Also, this doesn't mean that second-party stuff won't come, I suppose.  We're already getting that Phineas & Ferb game next month and I suppose Gio Corsi might support it with a few more ports, too.

I'm okay with it, I'm not a fan of handheld gaming.
