Forums - Sony - Sony Confirms It's Stopped First-Party Vita Development

One of the most ironically named consoles, I gotta say.

Such a shame though, PSP was amazing

Should have named it PS Viagra. Couldn't put it up themselves. Needs to rely on external solutions to keep it going.

First if all:
"Currently, first-party studios have no titles in development for PS Vita"

Does not mean that there won't ever be any first-party studios working on Vita titles.

Second of all:
There won't ever be any first-party studios working on Vita titles.

Third of all:
No shit.

Shocking news? Lol. They better. Who wants to use a handheld in this age anyway? I better play games in big TV instead of small screen.

Yes, because 10 years ago TV didn´t exist so people played on little screens because they had no other options.

1. Priority changes mate. Ten years ago people were still "mostly" dependent on laptops for on the go email / computing. Media was covered by handhelds and laptops. But now everything is in smart devices. Handhelds have become "handHELPS".

2. That comment was from my point of view. I never owned any handhelds after game boy. They are clumsy. As I am growing older my gaming entertainment is home systems. On the go gaming / computing / email etc are covered by smart devices. As for gaming in android I don't like gaming for long session. I feel dizzy if I play games in mobile in motion. I play occasionally in still place. A small session of plants vs zombies is enough. Plus carrying an extra device is just cumbersome.

Already announced years ago. Nothing new here.

Great move and long in the wait. More support for Ps4.

Exactly, as it should be.The handheld market of a dedicated gaming device is dead with even the 3DS selling less than it's predecessor and the next will sell even less. There is no longer any place for a dedicated handheld gaming device and now Sony can focus whole heartedly on home console since the PS2 days before the PSP.Everyone should be happy about this as handheld never delivered a high quality gaming experience and was always limited.

Who really cares at this point. its not like ppl were buying Sony software on the Vita in the first place.

Them maintaining an eco system for 3rd party devs is good enough at this point, and publishers clearly have no problem with that.

Yeah. Sony dropping the Vita, while Nintendo dropping the Wii U

It might sound bad but its for the best.

Nintendo hasn't done with Wii U, yet. Maybe next year.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

Vita will probably have longer software support when all is said and done.

Yeah, The Japanese market is the only one that's keeping it breathing.

Indeed. i think for most Vita users, thats pretty ok.

Pretty much when i hear the  Vita = JRPG. Sooo i think Vita users who does like that JRPG style will have a loooooooooooot to look forward to (especially if they keep translating them)

I thought this was established already, but ok.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
