Actually no its not a 'demo'. A demo is something that may not be representive of the final product, changes for the better or worse may be applied to final product

This is literally the first few chapters in there finished form, to try, before you buy

Well, many PSN-games and mobile games offer that. Many episode games, too (first episode free). Also the limited playtime for some full versions with PS+, Steam and Origin.

It's different than most Wii U demos in that I think it's the full game download where you can play the first 2 chapters and save your settings and progress if you decide to pay to unlock the rest of the game.

I went to buy it and there was no option to buy it. It said "free to start". Ask Nintendo, not me. I still don't know how much it costs!

Yeah, I noticed that as well when I checked out the store. Don't know why Nintendo decided to do this. I guess there may be an option to buy it after you completed the 1st chapters? It's a very weird move...
