I'm under the impression that scores like these aren't entirely atypical for the Fatal Frame series...
Not that I've done any research...
But I don't remember Spirit Camera being highly regarded by reviewers...

No, it's the worst fatal frame on metacritic, the others had good/decent score

It´s a japanese horror game, after all. No one should expect it to get good reviews from some closed-minded western reviewers.

As for now, there´s a big discrepancy on scores (8,5 - 4,0). Games like that tend to be very divisive in our videogame press.

Anyway, I´m still interested.

Silent Hill 2 and 3 got some extremely good reviews.  Fatal Frame 2 and 3 did a hell of a lot better than this.  Siren: Blood Curse did fairly well too.

I'd say western reviewers are alright with Japanese horror games.

Well, that was during the time Survival Horror were Survival Horror. Now they are supposed to be TPS with zombies and jumpscare.

Maybe some of the reviewers are salty because its mainly digital only.

The Destructoid review (4/10) is from a big fan of the series who asked to do the review for that reason.  None of his complaints had anything to do with what you're talking about.  He said the controls were annoying, the pacing was terrible, the repetition was tiresome, and that there is very little about the game that is memorable.

Im so sad this series is one of my favorite

Hmmm. Was hoping this game would be good. I guess it's not. Oh well, one less game to buy.

So your not buying it because it got a couple of bad reviews, 7's are not exactly bad either, stop going off of reviewers when it comes to buying games, if i had done that i would of missed out on some amazing games over the years!!!!

Based on some gameplay, it doesn't surprised me though I'm sure it can still find a niche audience.

The game looks to be played exactly just like the old Project Zero, with the gamepad feature that could be deactivate if you want to. I understood some criticism and when all review said that the game is too repetitive, it probably really is, but since the game plays exactly like before in the gameplay side, and since the Project Zero's gameplay has never been a problem, I really don't see how it suddenly turn into a problem now. Except for one reason : the survival horror has changed, and now it's not supposed to be like Project Zero.
