Forums - Nintendo - UPDATE - Nintendo Begins Distributing Software Kit for New NX Platform

I honestly don't even care how the product does. Nintendo can fuck it up, they've fucked up the last 3-4 generations (even the Wii they completely mismanaged the second half of its lifecycle).

So really I don't care about that.

All I know is it looks very likely that a year from now, give or take a few weeks, I'll be playing Nintendo games on better hardware than the Wii U/3DS.

Which is good enough for me. At this point I don't even care if other people buy it or not. If they do great, but ultimately I've learned fans and what is considered "common sense" thinking has no sway on Nintendo.

Nintendo does whatever the hell they want, just enjoy the games. I expect there will be some baffling/stupid hardware decisions even with NX, because that's just how Nintendo rolls, but I don't really care how it competes with the PS4/XB1 (market wise) anymore. I'll enjoy the games, that's all you can do as a fan/consumer.

PS4/XB1 have amazing graphics (relatively), the idea in a year Nintendo will have a console that can run games with the fidelity of Rhyse or FFXV or Order 1866 ... imagine a Mario Kart or Zelda or Mario 3D game on such a platform, wowza. Good enough for me.

With price point $300-$400 will be dead from start, nobody wants to buy Nintendo console with price point more than $300, in Q4 2016. Xbox One will have $250-300 price. Do you realise that PS4 now have price of $350 and Sony still have profit on it, next year PS4 could easily have price of $300, saying that there is no reason why Nintendo won't release console in Q4 2016. with Xbox One similar power with price point of around $249-299. $299 is max price that NX will have.

The bolded is incorrect. If consumers find value in it at $300+, they'll buy it. No magic Nintendo curse. Just a desired product.

My mistake, almost nobody wants to buy Nintendo console with price point more than $300. :)

Honestly with the game library the PS4 will have in 2016.... you cant expect the NX to cost more than a PS4 and still sell really well.

Miyamotoo is correct I think, it would be a mistake by nintendo to make the next console more than whatever the PS4 costs by then.

It's unavoidable. Don't see how a $250 machine isn't pure fantasy, given what we know. Plus the only the 500GB model is $350 now. I highly doubt the NX will be launching with such little space, given how indegral digital gaming will be to the NX. Expect 1TB of harddrive space. At least $300. Won't be suprised if its $400.

Plus the NX will also have the Wii U's library on the market place. They aren't starting from zero like everyone else. People who never bought the Wii U, which is just about everyone, will have access to Smash, Kart, and Splat on the eshop at launch, on top of everything else.

Exactly, Miyamoto said they always want to make affordable console for wider possible audience (like Wii was), and that Wii U had higher price then they wanted. All that telling me is that NX home console will have $249-299 price tag.

If the console is basically just a PS4/XB1 but three years late with no other notable "hook" to it, other than for $500 combined you can play some of the lower end games on a portable too ... I wouldn't expect huge sales from the console.

Won't bother me though, will be too busy enjoying Nintendo games with XB1/PS4 caliber graphics.

Buh-bye Wii U and 3DS. I enjoyed you, but you won't be missed in any real way.

Have you seen the game lineup the PS4 has for 2016?

If PS4 is 300$ and fighting against a 400$ NX nintendo...... I dont think that goes well for nintendo.

Lets be honest, there's nothing that stops the PS4 from selling 17-20 million units each in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

It has this generation wrapped up. Nothing is going to stop it now, it has too much momentum, much like the PS2.

Will they have the new amd cpu chips coming out. Amd been working on new chips

Well that's just the thing though, isn't it? There are a lot of Nintendo fans out there who want to enjoy the games, but don't get to, because they don't feel like the console is worth the investment. Surely there are a lot more than 10m people interested in the Wii U games.
For their sake (as I'm included in that group) I hope Nintendo does a better job to convince those people buy their home console again.

Sure it would be nice, but at the end of the day, it's up to the consumer to choose what they want, and Nintendo is a mistake prone company.

It is what it is, at this point I'm just pleased that new hardware is coming out. The 3DS was getting really long in the tooth and while I don't personally mind the Wii U, hey better hardware is good for me, so woo hoo. I can afford it so it's not a big deal.

I'm just going to enjoy the games. I don't expect Nintendo to magically become a huge market force or something nor is my enjoyment of their products tied to market success. The market today is simply very, very different from the market of the 80s/90s and Nintendo in a lot of ways is still an 80s/90s company and competing with Sony/MS is simply much, much harder than the days of competing against Sega, which made as many mistakes/more mistakes than Nintendo did.

You could make a lot of dumb mistakes in the 90s (like censoring Mortal Kombat) and still bounce back from them, today there just is no margin for error and even if you have a great product in some cases that's not good enough any more, you can be a victim of bad timing.

I don't expect much in that regard. If NX does well, great, if not, I don't really get too worked up about it any more. The games will be fun and they'll look gorgeous. If 16-year-old "dudebros" at EB decides he'd rather have a PS4 because it's what's cool ... whatever man.
