Funny that you think its a good thing (i assume), it means MS is losing even more money if true

Actually no, Costco already bought them from Microsoft. If they are selling their stock cheap it will affect only the retailer.

It will affect the numbers of Xbox Ones Costco will order in the future though.

It might start a domino effect with retailers matching that sale and trying to get rid of any overstock that's collecting dust. It certainly hurts the xbox one's percieved value and image.

That value and image is already tarnished and not very high so selling it at a lower price will not increase demand.I don't know why people don't understand the fact that the public does not want the X1 on a large scale.Price is not the reason for the sales struggle and price cuts have never increased sales long term for any product.See the Zune and Windows phone for reference.

Do you guys really shop in stores like that? It looks like a giant sized container.. Surely there are safety regulations?

I know a guy that shops in Costco.  Just one guy.

I shop there too. AMAZING STORE!!!!!!!!!!

I recommend getting a guest membership and picking up a roasted chicken for $5.

As any product ages, the price drops as it loses the early adopter buyers.  The lower the price, the more mass market appeal it has.  I agree that price drops generally don't make sales go up drastically long term, but the effect will be long term.  As the price drops for any console, the bigger the market there is to buy it.  Sure, the XB1 has had a few ugly moments, but the brand isn't broken to the general public and the general public is the mass market.  Not saying the XB1 will catch up to the PS4 in sales, but the blow out really only exists outside of the US.

It is near the end of the end....

It is on track to sell 7m this year, and this will likely be its peak year. So add another few years of 6m and we are looking at 30-40m. 30m would indeed be worst case scenario. Losing the disc drive in ONE model would not hurt anything. They could easily keep it as $300 for the standard X1 with a $200 No-Disc/No-HDMI-In/LessUSB/Smaller model for those interested, and there would be many.

No disc/no hdmi-in/less usb wont even come close to taking 100$ off the price. It may take 25$

The Blue Ray drive alone is $25

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

It's on track to do 9m+ this year. It did 7.9m last year and is already up by 750k as of the end of August. Even if MS went with only a 5 year gen (and I'd bet money they go for 6 and launch in 2019) they have a 40m selling console on their hands. They launch in 2019 and the Xbox One is closer to 50m than 45m by the time it's successor launches. Probably crossing 50m by the end of 2020 at the latest.

Losing the disc drive and the HDMI in would absolutely hurt something. You lose it's media center features, which are a major part of the Xbox One as a product. On top of that, I will remind you that BC uses the 360 disc to verify that you have it. You lose the drive, you lose BC.

You pretty much end up with two seperate consoles that need to be marketed seperatley. Which would lead to more confusion than anything else.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

LOL not even close. You can buy an entire bluray player for 35$ and Sony/MS does not pay anywhere near what we pay.

You see I disagree about that.  Everything up till now has proven that its media functions have gotten it nowhere.  BC can work through download as well.

With no games ... not really a discount.

I already got one for $275 with all Gears games plus AC:Unity (and Tomb Raider since it was free with XBLive Gold). Anyone looking for a deal should have listened to my Target post a couple weeks back.

As far as BC goes, if you own the physical copy of a 360 game you need the disc to play it on the Xbox One.

I can agree to disagree about the media features. Though, I have to say that I think the type of buyer that is going to find the lower price attractive are also going to be the people that will:

A: get the most use out of the media features.

B: be the most apprehensive about not being able to go into their local Wal-Mart and buy a game.
