You left out the most important thing from the OP

That's because it's only a summary.

Why should we treat gaming articles more important than actual news? News site don't really do anything fancy, changing a word or two and sourcing. You think people are clicking their sources to read the story twice?

Good to know that so many people read the forum rules.

Thread Content:

Copy-pasting full transcriptions of articles is strictly prohibited. Instead, you may paste specific sections of the article that pertain to the subject of your thread.

It has been prohibited for quite a while and it's rarely a thing now while before that it was the norm. Where is the point of this thread again? Report those threads and get over it.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I'm giving up on doing this, it's getting really tiring spending thirty minutes on trying to fix the formatting only to have it still appear the same - with ridiculous formatting errors.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:3

I totally agree.

Especially when the articles are posted and the OP says nothing at all... i'm like: Ok... what do you want me to say? Nice article?
Forum threads are for debating ideas, not just relaying articles.

I remember there was an announcement from the mods relating to this issue in the past saying that it wasnt allowed anymore, but i assume it wasnt enforced.

I hate copy and pasted threads just as much as the next guy and I always try to write a short paragraph about the subject and then leave a link to the site but the reasons you mentioned as to why this is wrong are totally wrong.

Not trying to be rude or anything but, just like some other users have posted, it's not my job to bring revenue to your site.

To be fair, what you describe is already against the rules:

"Copy-pasting full transcriptions of articles is strictly prohibited. Instead, you may paste specific sections of the article that pertain to the subject of your thread.
Likewise, your thread should never only be a link to the story/article/video/etc.
Avoid committing plagiarism by linking the original article in your thread.
Providing original content or commentary is also highly encouraged."

The mod team wants to encourage members to put more time and energy into their threads, and to take ownership of them. Copying a news article and then setting the thread on auto-pilot isn't a good way to do that.

I agree, though I do it myself sometimes. I always try to clean up the images and stuff.

I agree. Copying the full article is unethical and disrespectful. It's also illegal--people HAVE been sued for it.

I don't agree with writing a summary, though. That's a third-hand account of what is probably already second-hand information. It will probably be twisted around as often as not.

My solution is to post the first couple paragraphs (or maybe a bit more if it's long) or an excerpt and then "MORE" or "Name of Article" as links. I think that's fair. It's enough to show what the article is about and it allows those interested to read the full article on the publication website.

I completely agree. It's just a lazy way to make a thread. I could camp a news site all day and just paste every interesting tidbit I see and basically snatch up all the attention away from the publication. There's absolutely no reason we can't just sum it up, paste a bit of it, and give a link. That way it really seems more like a discussion (i.e. the very point of a forum thread).

Good to know it's not allowed though, so we really can just report them.
