Forums - Sony - Proud new owner! Finally got a PS4.

Hello PS brethren.

I finally got a PS4 and gee it was about time! I kept pushing the purchase away for the last few months, but with the winter coming, it will be time for me to go into semi hermite mode (too damn cold to go out as much as during the rest of the year), so I needed something to occupy my time during the cold season. I already have a Wii U, but there are so few upcoming titles interesting me on it (Xenoblade X and Yoshi's Wooly World, basically) that it wasn't going to be enough. So I finally took the plunge and got the The Last of Us Remastered Bundle for 400 bucks (plus taxes) at Walmart (compared to 430$ plus taxes for the Nathan Drake Collection). I thought a bit about it before buying the bundle because the Nathan Drake's bundle was 3 games vs one, and both include some of my favourite games from gen 7. But The Last of Us Remastered managed to win over the Collection because it's simply the game that made the strongest impact on me last gen. I will get the Collection eventually.

Anyway, I had bought The Witcher 3 prior to getting the console, and I was on media blackout ever since the game got released. Now I finally get to play it and my oh my is the game gorgeous! A lot of people here talk about diminishing return and things like that, but this game shows a huge and definite jump compared to last gen! All the physics in place, the foliage, the IQ, animations, draw distance, texture quality, AA... It got it all! Now, I'm really not far into the game yet, but I'm hooked. Witcher 2 is one of my favourite games on PC and this one improved just about everything compared to it. Really having a blast exploring the vast landscapes!

I really like the console's user interface. It's fast, and I like that the last application/game you used is kept in memory for you to go back to it instantly once you're done chatting, or browsing or doing whatever. It's really convenient. The only thing I don't like about it is that you can't customize the media bar. And how there are some stuff that remain in the options even though you couldn't care less about them (looking at you NHL and NBA Game Time...).

But all in all, it's a definite improvement over last gen's Cross Media Bar, and I can't wait to see how things evolve from here.

I also got The Order 1886 for 25$. I played a little of it, and so far it's not bad at all. It helps that I was aware of what it offers, and what it doesn't. So hopefully, I won't be as disappointed as some people here were. Even though most of the negativity about it, on VGC, came from people who haven't even touched the game, or a PS4 controller... =P

Anyway, I couldn't be happier with my purchase and am glad to have finally jumped into the 8th gen (Sorry Wii U... You're 7.5 to me). I still have to get an XBO in order to have fully completed my jump to the current gen, but let's take a step at a time! xD

The games I will be getting in the coming months:

Batman Arkham Knight
Tearaway Unfolded
Final Fantasy XIV with Heavensward (already got it on PC, but my PC is getting quite old and it doesn't run it to my liking)
Dragon Quest Heroes
Grand Theft Auto V
Uncharted The Nathan Drake Collection
Transformers Devastation (Can't pass on such a authentic looking G1 Transformers game! This series was a huge part of my childhood, back in  the 80s.)
Bloodborne
Until Dawn
Metal Gear Solid 5: Tactical Microtrans Action
inFamous Second Son
Fallout 4
Driveclub
...And the list goes on. And those are just the games that are already released or releasing before the end of the year.

Really a different scenario compared to the Wii U.

I currently don't play online much, but feel free to add me on PSN: Hynad.

See you all there.

Welcome aboard matey!

Congratz. ps4/wii U is a good combo though prepare for the "you should have gotten a pc for multiplats". The witcher 3 is my favorite game and yes it looks awesome on consoles. it drops to 20fps locked in certain area but it's supposed to be patched in the next update. Anyway, you are already set up for the cold season.

Welcome to the Playstation family, aka, the best place to play!!

I know the PC crowd will say stuff like that. But I never said anything about needing the best graphics with best performance combo... So screw them. =P

I didn't want to spend 1500 bucks on a new rig just yet. So a PS4 was the logical choice in my position.

As for the drop to 20fps in The Witcher 3, patch 1.10 just got out like yesterday or the day before. I don't know if it fixed that problem. I skimmed though the patch note and didn't see anything mentioned about this issue. But so far, the game has been running very well.

Ah I didnt think much to witcher but the last of us and gta5 are very good. I'm in the same boat a Wii u and ps4 but I won't get XONE due to lack of game time.

Really good you like it. I'll get mine next year.

Welcome mate

I have most of the games you mentioned but said I would hold of till Christmas for Witcher 3 cause it seems like that type of seasonal game for me. (I played Skyrim during Christmas too)
