Welcome to the official Genei Ibun Roku #FE (otherwise known as Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem) thread! Basically, this will act as a hub for all things related to the game, whether it be new gameplay details, screenshots, character art or release information! The game is currently slated for December 26th, 2015 in Japan and has a tentative 2016 release window for the west. With that being so, new info is coming in at a rapid pace from Famitsu and other Japanese sources!

Genei Ibun Roku #FE is an upcoming crossover JRPG in development by Atlus and Nintendo for the Wii U, based on the franchises Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem. The gameplay uses a turn-based battle system where the characters merge with their Mirages to fight enemies with a variety of attacks and abilities. The story focuses on a group of young people in association with the Fortuna Entertainment agency who go on to ally with beings from an alternate dimension in order to prevent theirs from imminent destruction.

  • The game will launch on December 26th, 2015 in Japan in three different units: a vanilla copy, the Fortissimo Edition which comes with an illustration by toi8, a soundtrack CD with 6 tracks, pre-order costumes, additional costumes and a flyer to get early access to tickets for a special Genei Ibun Roku #FE Premium concert that will take place in Japan in May, and the premium Wii U set, which includes all content from the Fortissimo Edition plus six character lyric cards, two sheets of stickers and a download card for 3 additional support quests.

  • Staff Interview #5: The Composer
Itsuki Aoi (CV: Ryouhei Kimura)
Mirage: Chrom
  • Itsuki was an ordinary high school student, but after a certain event, he has awakened as a Mirage Master. He was practically forced into going to the show biz production called "Fortuna Entertainment," where his friends gather, but he doesn't exactly share their love for the entertainment world.
  • Itsuki is described as a responsible and honest character, but he also has a bit of a obstinate side as well.
Tsubasa Oribe (CV: Inori Minase)
Mirage: Sheeda

  • Tsubasa is Itsuki's childhood friend, and she has also awakened as a Mirage Master together with him. She joines Fortuna Entertainment as a new idol. She's a foolhardy but hard worker, and stays focused once her mind is set on something. She's never discouraged by her constant blunders, and has an optimistic personality. She's a big fan of her senior, named Kiria.
Toma Akagi (CV: Yuki Ono)
Mirage: Kain
  • Toma is Itsku and Tsubasa's classmate. He's a Mirage Master of Fortuna Entertainment who loves "henshin" (transformation) heroes. He's a little frivolous in his speech and actions, but he's the type that puts action before thoughts. He's always wishing that he could be a hero, and is currently aiming to get the lead role in a Tokusatsu program called "Masqeraider."
Kiria Kurono (CV: Yoshino Nanjo)
Mirage: Tharja
  • Kiria is a top musician who is supported by many young fans. She simply goes by "Kiria" and is a Mirage Master with high-level fighting abilities. She's also referred to as the "cool beauty," but not many people know her in her private life. She's a senior figure who leads Itsuki and the others.
Eleonora Yumiziru (CV: Ayane Sakura)
Mirage: Virion
  • Eleonora is a Mirage Master and successful actress. She's half Caucasian and admires Hollywood actresses. Her nickname is "Ellie." She's younger than Itsuki, but she's a celebrity, and is his senior when it comes to her career as a Master. She behaves like an older sister and has a caring personality, and is one of the best looking members at Fortuna.
Maiko Shimazaki (CV: Ami Koshimizu)
  • Maiko is the president of the production company "Fortuna Entertainment" that recruits Mirage Masters. She is like a mother figure to the Mirage Masters. She's a drinker, and has worked as a gravure idol in the past. Maiko is sharp and has quick wits, and cares about her production company comrades more than anyone.
Tiki (CV: Sumire Morohoshi)
  • Tiki is the key visual character of a vocal software called "Singaloid TiKi" that is currently a hit among internet users. It's currently an ongoing trend with the youngsters to upload new songs by Tiki on the Internet.
Mamori Minamoto (CV: Kaori Fukuhara)
Mirage: Draug
  • A talent and Mirage Master that belongs to the same public entertainment office as the protagonists. She's an elementary school student that likes Showa era songs and clothing.
Barry Goodman (CV: Yuichi Nakamura)
  • A once popular musician who's come to Japan in search of otaku culture. Following his retirement, he works with the protagonists as a trainer.
  • Character descriptions by Siliconera
Chrom (CV: Tomokazu Sugita)
Origins: Fire Emblem Awakening
  • Chrom is a prince from a land in another dimension, and he's a "Lord" Mirage. Since transferring to this world, he has lost his memories. He has a courageous personality, and a strong sense of justice. While in combat, he changes into a sword as a trusted partner for Itsuki, who isn't very experienced in combat.
Caeda (CV: Saori Hayami)
Origins: Shadow Dragon
  • A "Pegasus Knight" Mirage, and Tsubasa's partner. Similar to Chrom, she's a visitor from another dimension and has no recollection of her memories. She has a tender-hearted personality, and is like an elder sister figure to the tomboyish Tsubasa. She lends her powers to Tsubasa by transforming into a spear in battle.

Cain (CV: Toshiki Masuda)
Origins: Shadow Dragon
  • Cain is Toma's "Cavalier" Mirage partner. Like Chrom, he's from another world and has lost his memories. Due to his similarities with Toma, they're like brothers who work well together. He transforms into a spear while in combat.
Tharja (CV: Kana Akutsu)
Origins: Fire Emblem Awakening
  • A "Dark Mage" mirage, Tharja is a visitor from another world who lost her memory. She specializes in magic, regardless of whether she's in a battle or going about her daily routine, she supports Kiria in the shadows. During battle, she changes into a cane to lend Kiria her power.
Virion (CV: Hiromichi Kogami)
Origins: Fire Emblem Awakening
  • An "Archer" mirage, Virion is a visitor from another world who lost his memory. He has an aristocratic personality and values elegance, and is often in conflict with his unmanageable master Eleonora. During battle, he changes into a bow to lend Eleonora his power.
Draug (CV: Ryota Takeuchi)
Origins: Shadow Dragon
  • An "Armored Knight" mirage, Draug is a visiot from another world who lost his memory. He is devoted to supporting his inexperienced master Mamori and being relied on as a heavy knight. During battle, he changes into an axe to lend Mamori his power.
  • "Some of the functions of the Wii U GamePad for #FE resemble the popular Japanese communication app LINE. The GamePad will display the game's map and various options, along with something called "The Topic.""
  • ""The Topic" is a pseudo-chat tool that the characters use, as the game progresses, to send messages to each other. The personality of each character is represented with how they chat."

Level System & Party:

Hirata: “The experience gained in battle will be shared among party members, with a variety of options to choose how they improve as they level up.”

Hirata: “The party system is restricted to three characters fighting simultaneously, but members outside of the party will occasionally burst into the battle to aid the characters. The battle director and chief designer Ishida stated that ‘I want to see all the characters fighting’, which has been suffering (laughs).”

Side Quests:

Takada: “New songs won’t just be seen in the main story. Each character has a side story, and if you help the character achieve their goal, there are rewards such as additional movies and songs, or new abilities and moves in battle.”

User Interface & World Design:

"The game’s world uses pop colors to represent the entertainment industry concept. Using youthful colors such as lime green in the design, sparkle effects and ripples are meant to show that it is a  “colorful world.”

This changes when it comes to dungeon design and locations which have more of a fantasy element to them, evoking mystery where fantasy and reality are intermingled. Because Mirages have been robbed of their “power of expression,” the dungeons also embody this.

A variety of different locations will be seen through the dungeons such as movie sets, but they are not necessarily tied to the physical real world. The dungeons will have a bunch of different gimmicks and puzzles to them."

Locations:

"The game has primarily been shown to be set in Shibuya, but it was revealed that the game will also take place in Harajuku. Genei Ibun Roku #FE will also take place in other locations, which hints of can be seen in the second promotional video for the game."

RPG Elements:

"The renowned Atlus RPG aspect of taking advantage of an enemy’s weakness is combined with the “Weapon Triangle” system from Fire Emblem. Different difficulty settings are available, so those who might not be familiar with previous Atlus games will still be able to enjoy their first one with #FE."

Live Performances:

"One of the defining aspects of Genei Ibun Roku #FE will be the live performances by the characters during certain points of the game. Making full use of motion capture, Anima handles the 3D animation. Combined with the music and choreography of Avex Group makes the whole thing truly shine."

Meaning Behind Title "#FE":

"As previously stated, the notation “#” in “#FE” comes from the music symbol “sharp.” Signifying a semitone high note, this is intended to symbolize how Genei Ibun Roku is more than a simple collaboration project, and that it will be reaching greater heights.

The game’s logo is inclined obliquely, which is intended to show how the game will show the Fire Emblem series from a different angle."

Don't we have a Fire Emblem thread?

I mean, I'm eagerly anticipating J-pop happy fun time destruction apocalypse, but yeah, don't we have a Fire Emblem thread to dump this in?

I mean, yeah, I know they don't like the idea of J-pop idol happy fun time destruction apocalypse magical girl reconstruction: The Game, but yeah.

If we do, I haven't seen it.

Even so, putting this in the Fire Emblem thread would be along the lines of dumping Persona 5 in a hypothetical Shin Megami Tensei thread. Technically they fall under the same umbrella, but to associate them that closely would be essentially ignoring the many differences they have. The team at Atlus have basically said this is a brand new thing.

I hope the DLC costumes come over to the West. I like the Walter and DS2 MC outfits.

Also I didn't know about the Gamepad functionality. That looks pretty cool, a fun way to keep track of the characters and game events with with something familiar.

Well, tagging anyway. Looking forward to this game, for sure.
