Forums - Gaming - how can DMC devil may cry have a higher metacritic score than 4 on new gen? is Metacritic biased towards Japan?

Firstly, I'm not sure that's true. DmC has an 86, and DMC4 has an 84. Unless a whole bunch of critics retroactively went back or did retro reviews to lower DMC4, it's hard to imagine it dropping three points over time.

Secondly, though, keep in mind that remasters are often judged by what they bring that's new to the game and how they fix the complaints people had about the original. DmC fixed a lot of the stuff that was wrong with the original DmC, and DMC4...didn't. Critics tend to review higher for that stuff.

Devil may cry 4 added new characters, dmc didnt add anything new gameplaywise and is 20€ more expnsinve . DMC didnt fix anything what was wrong with this game, emodante cant be fixed.

DmC DE fixed a lot of what was wrong, and this is coming from someone who thought vanilla DmC was utter trash. The style system is no longer broken, there's now a hard lock on feature (which is admittedly a bit wobbly until you alter the control scheme), the game now runs at 60 FPS, and the color coded enemies aren't completely invincible to all but one weapon.

I still don't think DmC is very good myself, but opinions are opinion. Chances are these are the reasons why it's scoring well on Metacritic. You can say these reasons aren't valid, but they're still the reviewers' reasons nonetheless.

Even as an incomplete game DMC 4 sold better than DmC. Capcom will hopefully take notice of this.

Release more incomplete games?

As opposed to releasing more DmC, hell yeah.

I liked DMC4, but Ninja Theory's IS a great game, despite the character design that I didn't liked...

I guess it's preference.

Yeah but metacritic doesnt include japanese or asian reviers in their score, its a highly biased prefernce from the start from a site who claims representing the whole world.

Its only western reviewers who are allowed and from them the majority are anglo-american sites. I havent even seen a german site on metacritic

That's because it was made for English people.

No where it says it, and they still allow other languages from europe tough its more limeted.

The default language being English doesn't show it was made to aggregate reviews in English?

You mean an English language site focuses on English speaking people and English language sources? :o What madness is this!?

No where it states it is like this. Its a fact that metacritic is wrongly viewed as the global score. If they would focus only on english they wouldnt allow any none-english sites but they do. But its limited and some languages arent allowed like japanese. It should be obvious by now

No where does it say it's any other way. And considering I can't see any options to change the language on the site it's fair to assume that it is aimed towards English speaking people.

Besides, why do you think some languages 'aren't allowed'? Could it not just be that no reviewers using that language have bothered to apply? I mean, why would they? It's not as if their reviews being shown to people that can't understand a word they are saying is going to increase their traffic at all.

I know that for a fact because you can see sometimes famitsu in some reviews. I think they add famitsu later when the western reviewers are allready done.

But if you look at japanese games who arent released in the west normally famitsu and other japanese sites should have the review out first because it released in japan first right, but they dont show up? The conclusion is that they only add famitsu if there allready done which is also rarley by the way, and no other japanese sites i have seen besides famitsu. And you dont see any other languages from none-western sites. Is this coincedence? i highly doubt it

There are plenty of German sites and magazines on Metacritic.

GamePro, 4players, PC Games, Eurogamer Germany etc.

Never seen them and certainly not on a launch of a game

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/dmc-devil-may-cry/critic-reviews

I'm seeing GameStar, Eurogamer Germany and PC Games

4players can be found here:

GamePro seems to have been added only recently (although I had the feeling they were on Metacritic before....):

Yeah but their reviews are often times heaviliy delayed i noticed.

Because DMC was great and DMC4 was mediocre. Yeah, I said it. And I have been playing the series since '01.

Come at me, bro!

Because d21lewis says DMC was great and DMC4 was mediocre. And he's been playing the series since '01.

i doubt you played all since the first one, your gamertag doesnt show DMC4 or the HD collection
