Don't know. I personally consider it an accessory, but I could see a company consider it hardware.

Because people read it without trying to understand it, so they read something like "best Halo launch ever" and huge numbers only. You can see such reactions in the other thread about this PR ;) 

So that means the internet will be full of people screaming "Xbox won" for the rest of the year :p

If it's a mechanical or electronic device, or just a lump of plastic, then it's hardware.

Actually just a few weeks probably, until NPD and the impending massive loss in November shatter MS's little fantasy facade :P

Someone just mentioned something over at Gaf that I'd forgotten and I bet quite a few people have. Not only was the MS PR a little (how would you say) misleading, but it would have included sales of the game that released a WEEK before officially launching. The PR states 'at the end of the launch week' which allows them to add the extra week in and still make it look like it's only 1 week when in actual fact it's 2 weeks.

That'll just make them focus more on the one ray of light that happened in October.

The bundle released on the 20th, so they counted 2 weeks.
