Which of the big 3 are gonna stop hardware manufacturing first?

Sony's Playstation 32 11.00%

Nintendo 54 18.56%

XBOX 205 70.45%

Total:291

So from Sony , Nintendo and Microsoft. Which of these big 3 are gonna stop making consoles or handhelds first? Like they either go third party or stop making games or sell their properties to someone else. Sony's playstation is doing well, but there handheld market is bad except japan, and some other sony divisions are also losing money. Nintendo's Wii U was preatty much a failure despite the awsome games it had and the incredible attach rates some games have, but Nintendo seems to have alot of cards up their sleeves in the upcoming future and they have alot of money in the bank supposedly . Microsoft's XBOX isnt doing that good as they maybe expected. Its mostly non-existant in japan but they do have alot of money, but will it be worth it?

After Gen 9 I'd like to think they would all stop. Or just make set top boxes like Roku or Amazon Fire. Pretty sure digital will be very strong by then

very hard to say, depends on next gen. likelihood is Nintendo then Sony then MS. basically in order of who can sustain a decline the longest. I don't expect any of them to actually stop though, more likely as jlmurph2 says they will just become a part of your TV, media device or whatever is the centre of your living room in another 10 years.

Microsoft did express a desire to spin off the Xbox Unit at one point if I remember rightly... Due to it's expense.
And Nintendo isn't doing so well.

Sony would be insane to abandon the market when even their worst home console can do well.

Ms or sony depends on their salesnumbers and brand loyality of their costumers

Microsoft is supporting two platforms, one of them being an all-in-one OS that already has XBL support.
I should know this, I'm a Windows Phone user!

Sony wins home consoles by default. PS is also their best-performing division.

Nintendo is stuck having to make their own hardware, for better or worse. Worst-case scenario, they go back to just making playing cards and hanafuda.

Nintendo will fight as hard as possible to avoid putting their main software into other's hardware, just to avoid devaluing their products. The mobile bussiness will make a lot of money, but it won't replace their main bussiness, specially due to the brutal competition on mobile.

PlayStation is getting more and more of Sony's atention, because it will be used as a gateway for their services. A lot of Sony hardware can connect to PS devices, and Sony music and movies can be sold through PS. It won't be abandoned at all, even with them leaving the handheld market.

One of the objectives of the XBox brand for Microsoft was creating a brand popular and "cool" to appeal to potential younger costumers. However, by doing that, they lost the oportunity of being the main distributor of digital gaming on PC, and their mobile schemes didn't affect that market at all, Android and IOs are still the kings while Microsoft Mobile isn't doing nearly as well as Microsoft would like. With PCs growing in power and in popularity over consoles, I can see Microsoft releasing a XBox digital distribution system for PC and the next XBox (that will basically be a Windows PC with standarised hardware and a controller). And after that, just leave the console department completely and focus on PC digital distribution, maybe still selling XBox machines that are just PCs with controllers.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Nontendo no question. They might stick with handhelds though and go the Konami route.

Nintendo needs it, Sony is winning money with it. MS could stop the Xbox and focus on PC without any issue (it could even be better for them).

So I'm voting for MS.

Ive said this on the past.

Before Sony goes out of business and/or sell the Playstation division, first Microsoft drops the Xbox brand and Nintendo goes third party.

Sony leaving the videogame business is the least likely situation
