Forums - Movies & TV - Game of Thrones Movie Coming

- George R.R. Martin slipped the news during an interview

- he tells Ibnlive.com:

“There will be a movie but I will not be involved. I have too much to do. That is something HBO and (executive producers) DB (D.B. Weiss) and David (Benioff) are dealing with. I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do. The pressure is on. I am such a slow writer and the fans get upset that I don’t write faster.”

- reports say Game of Thrones will see an end after Season 8, the film will take place after the last season

Do you like this approach to end the TV adaptation?

Apparently writing one sentence a week for the past 4 1/2 years is too much work for George and he can't be involved.

He sure takes his sweet time writing. :)

Damn right! I mean we will probably die before the seventh book ever gets it's first draft!

I am okay with it is the conclusion is satisfactory. Mildly surprised they are doing 8 seasons instead of 7 after how season 5 burned through and cut so much from books 4 and 5.

Excellent news!

That Martin is actually writing the books instead, I mean.

Its become a Hollywood tradition to split the final book in a series into two films. I guess HBO is extending that to TV shows now.

Unless the 2 remaining books are as long as the first 4 books combined I don't see how the show can't wrap things up in 3 seasons unless they create all sorts of filler. I was actually hoping for a Robert's Rebellion prequel for a movie. Not for the adaptation of the books to conclude with a movie.

These are rough approximations of adaptation

Season 1 - Book 1
Season 2 - Book 2
Season 3 - Book 3
Season 4 - Book 3
Season 5 - Books 4/5

Now, they can rework aspects so parts of books 4/5 they cut are in season 6 and book 6 and 7 could be epics on par with book 3 so makes sense they divide it up.  Of course at this stage the show could take a left turn as seen in season 5 and just be its own thing so hard to say how much of that story is left to tell or where it will go.  Personally as much as I love the show, the books are where I fell in love with the series a decade or so ago so my main interest in Winds of Winter and Dream of Summer.

Or he dies first. :(
