Forums - Gaming - Will you be disappointed if Fallout 4's mechanics feel the same as Fallout 3?

No, and anyone who would be is setting themselves up for disappointment from the get go. Sequels always retain the feel of their predecessors to a large extent. That's simply a given, and it's why franchises are born in the first place. A lot of people really loved X/Y/Z, so the publisher/dev continue to provide more and more refined versions of X/Y/Z.

I play Fallout 3/New Vegas in god mode cos I don't care about the combat :D

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

As long as the world building is quality like new Vegas and 3 I can deal with old mechanics. The beauty of fallout, to me, was getting lost into the world.

Nope, i wouldn't be disappointed at all. The Fallout series is one of my all-time favorites. I just hope that 4 doesn't freeze as much as say Skyrim did.

What? I would be totally fine if it played the same. I never had any problems with it.

I'm actually more worried about the fact i will be pressured on VATS mode.

I find the opening statement kinda funny. Bethesda changes a lot game to game, actually. Hence every single TES generating a firestorm when it lands as one group calls it garbage and the other calls it an unqualified improvement. Obviously the structure and such will be fairly similar and the feel will be the same but that's good. Good sequels are progressive evolutions, not necessarily total reinvention.

So, yes, I would be disappointed if there weren't some serious improvements and additions. But unless their game trailers have just been total lies, that shouldn't be an issue. Improvements to gunplay, extensive crafting that makes use of tons of items, customizable power armor, freaking jetpacks and other aireal travel. Yeah, Fallout 4 is looking like a step forward for sure.

I know there are lots of changes but I would be fine with F3 mechanics in a whole new world with a new story and locations.

As long as it doesn't turn into yet another mindless FPS I'm fine. Actually I wish they enforced te RPG elements. Hopefully

No, because I haven't played Fallout 3. However I'm looking forward to playing Fallout 4. Looks really cool.

EDIT: So after some reasearch and viewing some videos found on unusual sites. I've viewed about an hour of gamplay and I have to say just from watching it be played the game has a feel like it is DRASTICALLY different, most of which looks fantastic and fluid and a welcome upgrade. But then there is this...

What the fuck...? The whole system looks like a mobile, kids game. Why

Well the system looks fine to me, so long as it works out the way it looks like it will.  It will help it be more distinguished from Bethesda's other major franchise, TES.  The visual presentation is interesting, different from the norm.  I don't mind either way.
