Forums - Sony - Japanese MGS4 pricing revealed (all 3 versions)

Suddenly, we start to think video games in Japan are pricey.
When the exchange rate was 120 yen : 1$, everything there was so darn cheap.
I remember seeing people here complaining why video games in US are so pricey :)

I guess I will stop buying games directly from Amazon.com.jp for a very long time.
I blame Bernanke and Bush!

Well if you think it's ok for them to raise the price of all the games to $70 then go ahead and say that.  It doesn't matter if the exchange rate is 120 yen or 100, this is still expensive.

@johnsobas

As Naz mentioned in the previous post, "Japanese retail games are built with much more price flexability than American retail games."

The pricing strategy for video games in Japan is very different than NA.  Western games are extremely cheap over there, in comparison to Japanese games. Let me give you some examples:
MGS4 8800 yen; Yakuza 3 7800 yen; Disgaea 3 special edition 9240 yen; DMC4 8300 yen
Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, and Heavenly Sword all priced at 5980 yen.

I really don't think the pricing of MGS4 is that "unacceptable" for Japanese. If Disgaea 3 + one theme song CD dare to charge them that much, it should be OK for MGS4's price tag.

My point in my previous post is, the exchange ratio of US currency has altered the way we feel about the price of games in different markets.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

is metal gear online a seperate disc? or is it included in teh actual mgs4 disc?

MGO and the main game are on the same disc.

I think given the expense of the PS3, it is safe to assume that 99.9% of the fanbase is hardcore.

Konami have simply concluded that for a game like MGS4, the hardcore will pay what they have too, and as the system has no casuals, they don't have to worry about it until the userbase expands and then they'll drop the price.

Konami is screwing gamers, but it makes good business sense.

Hahaha. So much for everything you say being based on fact. You are nothing but a fanboy.

How about you respond to my post with a counter-argument, rather than personal attacks that do nothing to harm the argument I made, but make you look foolish?

How aboutyou respond to the thread with relevant information to begin with? Rather than your fanboy biased view? All it does is make you look foolish. In case you didn't know why I said that it because of "it is safe to assume that 99.9% of the fanbase is hardcore", assume? Beleive what you want in your little fanboy haven. I thought I didn't have to point that out because I think it's as clear as day and probably ever other member does too. Take off the fanboy shutters. Even a monkey if thought to read could notice that.

Actually you're the only one acting like a rabid fanboy here. starcraft's post was actually insightful, and it merits much more than the reply you gave him.

PS3's base in Japan is almost all hardcore gamers (excluding the Blu-Ray maniacs who I believe are around 25% based on the attach rate), and you can easily see that in the charts (assuming you know how to read them, which I wouldn't bet on considering your attitude).

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

On a side note, the original Metal Gear Solid will be available on the japanese PSN store in the near future.

OT: Listen, if the Hardcore japanese PS3 userbase wants the game, they will buy it. (I doubt there are any casual PS3 owners who will buy the game anyways, at least in Japan.) I could care less, because when the game comes out in the States it will be $60. And I will buy it.

So you are arguing that casual gamers regularly pay $400+ for a system?
