Forums - Gaming - Do you buy consoles day1 or wait for software that convince you to cave in?

When do you buy a new console?

Day one for me 17 22.08%

I wait for a game that I really want 23 29.87%

I wait for a considerable... 30 38.96%

As soon as I am able to steal one 5 6.49%

I wait for someone to giv... 0 0%

I play on someone else's... 2 2.60%

Total:77

For me, usually the software sells the console. There has to be one or two games that I can't live without.

The only exceptions were:
Wii: purchased RE4 with it. Didn't really have any game that I had to have.
PS4: sold on the hardware and the promise of the future
WiiU: Day one. Got NSMBU, Call of Duty, and Nintendo Land but really, there wasn't anything I wanted.

Usually, there is a killer app at launch but I guess those days are over.

In the past I have always waited a bit for a good set of games/price drops. I did buy my PS4 at launch though. I have a bit more disposal income now and I was ready to move on after an extended generation.

I'm actually glad I did because the Canadian dollar was at par with the American so it was 400 back then. It is now 450 Canadian and I'm pretty sure it will be back to 400 after the price cut...

Software is the selling point for me, though I don't really 'cave' when I buy a console. I only get one if it's worth the purchase after enough games come out..

No, I normally wait. The games I want, are always released 1 or 2 years later anyway. Also, one hardware revision rule for me. On handhelds. Consoles. Don't care. I only got a PS4 on launch for its media functions. Well, that was dumb mistake I won't be doing ever again.

I normally get a console within its first year except ps4 which I got it on launch window.

I would gladly buy consoles at launch or in their first year if for me they are worth the price or I know the games will eventually come. Sadly, I'm poor and have to wait a few years before jumping onto a new system. The PS Vita was probably the only console I ever bought in its first year.

i waited for blood borne, biggest let down ever

it's either 1 must have game or 2-3 games i consider interesting.

I wait for a significant price cut. Games won't run away anywhere.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

I only buy consoles when a game I care for is out, or is coming out soon.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
