It could Android apps in the same way Blackberry does it. I think it will because Nikkei is the best source for Nintendo stuff on the internet, they are the Japanese Wall Street Journal, not some little game rumor site and they've called many things about Nintendo that turned out to be more or less accurate.

Well I think it will a Nintendo OS incorporating android like apps. Like a Nintendo version of playstore.

My child has access to a 3DS, wii u, ps4,ps3, xbox 360 and wii. Himself owning a xbox and a Wii.  He loves halo and zelda, splat on etc. But like I said all his mate, cousins etc have Tablets so when he asked for a kindle that's what he got. Also I hope your are not seriously judging my parental abilities based on a theory for a Nintendo console

Ah my bad maybe a smiley face or a wink and I would of got it. I thought you were suggesting I was depriving them of decent video games and forcing crappy mobile games on them

I wouldnt rule out it being a 3rd pillar device, after all Mr Iwata did say that NX is not a simple replacement for 3DS and Wii U.

But with that said, your definition would still make it a console :P.
It's unlikely to be android based. It might have an android API, but it won't be Android I don't think.

I think one device that can be a home console and a portable is too tempting for Nintendo to pass up. They have been waiting 15 years for technology to get to this point and now its possible. Even the Wii U, I believe they wanted to make a portable console, but you couldn't put the chipset inside the controller then, now in 2016 ... it's possible.

From that main device they can probably birth other more specialized devices (ie: a console version that's anchored to the TV) but I think the main NX system will be something that lets you play games on the road and can beam them wirelessly to your home TV when at home. And there will be some other type of gimmick on top of that to encourage people to gather around the unit and play together some how.
