Forums - Sony - Sony MMO will beat WOW success

In a recent interview Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley claimed that a Playstation 3 MMO game could surpass World Of Warcraft's success.

"In fact I think by having a stable platform where every customer has an online capable box is a huge, huge potential advantage in building an MMO because you've already got an online userbase", he said.

We too don't know how PC is not an "online capable box".

"It's a massive advantage over the PC and we don't have to worry about graphics cards or things like that. It's going to be very big. Console online gaming in general I think is going to be one of the next huge phases of growth in the online gaming space", John Smedley added.

Can any one please explain this pile of BS to me cause I just dont under stand the words that are comming out Johns mouth. That would mean that Sony would have to have Half (Sorry info was wrong, 65%) of its PS3's customers playing this new mmo... Guess what it will NEVER happen! I am so sick of Sony trying to make its self look better than it is and lying to our face. They have a good product, a decent online, and a dedicated (to the death) fanbase. Do they really feal the need to keep on lying, sugar coating, or what ever the fuck you want to call this?

SOE have to be the crappiest devs Sony employs. It's no wonder they spout BS like this.

Thats Sony PR just over look them, just another tally mark on the list of stupid Sony PR comments.  No console MMO could kill a PC MMO, cause PC will be best for communication and theres more PCs out there in homes then consoles, so simply

Sony =

Although I do agree this is BS, I think the way to open MMO's back up to the main market is to take the console route. He does have some good points about people not having to worry about their hardware.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Haha (cry) :D

Hahahahahahahahaha.

"Everyone has an online capable box..."

That's just great. That's the worst PR i've seent his generation so far I think. Well either that or when Bill Gates said that Sony only makes videogame consoles. (Or was that last gen?)

Either way this seems a little worse... just do to... does he not own a computer?

why didn't they use quotes, where he really mades that claim ? did he really say that or is it just something someone else interpreted ?

@ thread creator )

he didn't say "a Sony MMO we will release tomorrow" , so he could be talking about something that releases in 3 years, when the PS3 has an install base of 50-70 million or so

but I agree, that I it's not likely they put out something, that even comes close to selling half as good as WoW .. well, he only seems to talk about a hypothetical / theoretical chance anyway

For someone that hates being lied to their face, you certainly made an interesting thread title.  Nowhere in there did I see John say that their MMO would beat WoW, he said it was a possibility and gave some reasons why it could happen.  Your thread title says otherwise.

...

This thread deserve a WTF tag.
Surely, everyone's computer is not an online capable "box"...
