Does that matter? The point is that Japan is clearly not the only place where the 3DS sells...

It sells in other regions, just not a lot for the market size. And definitely not enough for Nintendo to release another dedicated system. They managed to prolonge the 3DS's life by releasing several drastic revisions and re-selling to current owners.

60+ million isn't enough for Nintendo to release a successor? I know ur not a Nintendo fan but let's be a little realistic here.

U mean the same thing they have done every generation? Nintendo has released a handheld almost every year for close to 15 years.

2001-Gameboy Advance

2003-Gameboy Advance SP

2004-Nintendo DS

2005-Gameboy Micro

2006-Nintendo DS Lite

2008-Nintendo DSi

2009-Nintendo DSi XL

2011-Nintendo 3DS

2012-Nintendo 3DS XL

2013-Nintendo 2DS

2014-New Nintendo 3DS/XL

Releasing these revisions wasn't some last minute resort to fend off mobile, they were going to release regardless.

Since Vita is the dedicated gaming device that gets the most 3rd party support in Japan, I have to wonder where these developers will move to without a Vita successor?

I guess it still has a few years left before Vita support ends but will they move onto to mobile? Sony home consoles? Nintendo handhelds? Combination of the above?

yeah but they created the fucking climate themselves by making Gravity Daze 2 PS4 exclusive among others things.

the reason the vita was not a success like sony wanted, is because sony themselves killed the system with poor 1st support and overpriced memory cards and system. Also poor ads and deals to get ppl to buy the system, all the issues with the vita remain soley on the shoulders of sony, its just that simple.
I myself love the vita , I own the system with over 75 games, but using the excuse they keep using for the poor received vita is the mobile market is severly flawed at its core and they know that themselves.
the Nintendo 3ds has sold over 55 million systems and when its done will come close to 70 million I wager, yes its a big gap from the Nintendo ds but its still a very healthy market with the so called mobile market that sony is blaming the fate of the vita on.

3DS and Vita are totally different handhelds and are not really directly comparable

Honestly I do not mind if VITA is their last. It is a perfectly made system with some nice exclusives which will hold value, something not very common with Sony platforms due to millions of sales.

3DS sales will catch a second wind once Nintendo stops updating it and pirates finally hack it the way they hacked the DS.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

While Sony did certainly drop the ball with the Vita, just look at Nintendo. Even with them pouring money into the system and it's library of games, it's still hasn't sold half what it's successor did. It's time to face it, mobile is replacing handheld gaming. Sony needed to support their platform more, yes, that's a fact, but they clearly saw the amount they would have to spend and don't see it as worth it. Especially seeing what the "King of Handheld Gaming" has done in a little extra time.

Dedicated gaming handheld market is close to collapse, don't kid yourself people.

Pff, don't say that. It's entirely Sonys fault, their first party and a price cut could have made the Vita a 100 million seller, so they should have just poured all their resources into trying to save the Vita, no matter how financially unhealthy that might have been.

I know you're being sarcastic but it sure could have saved it, if it had an ND developed exclusive (TLOU?), an exclusive God Of War game from Ready At Dawn instead of that terrible PS4 game they made, and an exclusive GT game grom Polyphony instead of GT6 on PS3. They could have also moneyhatted a Rockstar Leed developed exclusive GTA game and the BioShock game they had teased for Vita, and maybe given Gearbox some money to make Borderlands 2 for Vita along with the other versions. They would have made back that money quickly.

A GOOD exclusive Resistance and COD game in its first year wouldn't have hurt either.
