Forums - Nintendo - What type of game will the NX killer app be?

Nintendo aren't stupid enough to launch three unique pieces of hardware simultaneously.

I doubt that. It wasn't for the Wii. A third iteration wouldn't do it for the NX.

All 3rd party games in 1080p/60fps. That would be the killer. Sprinkle that with the usual Nintendo suspects and you have a legendary console.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Unique hardware is going buh-bye IMO. They will share the same games and probably even largely the same hardware components so Nintendo can launch 3 if they want.

To the OP's question I think the launch title that they are working on is Amiibo Universe (Hub-Game ala Skylanders).

The NX system's will come with a starter Amiibo and the game pre-loaded so that Nintendo can sell tons of plastic toys for the life of the system and they'll add DLC levels to this hub game with different Nintendo themed worlds over time.

Not my cup of tea, but I can totally see it.

Amiibo toys are going to be a core part of their business going forward, and they will probably have a version of the Amiibo Universe game on iOS/Google Play store also.

I would like to see a Nintendo take on an open world game in the lines of GTA or FO3/4. Zelda might be it, hard to say.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

A proper mario maker. Current one is missing so much, I think they new the appeal was probably wasted on the wii. And of course zelda and probably  metroid at this point, for the more hardcore

That doesn't make any sense. When I say unique hardware, I mean hardware that is individual from each other. As in a handheld which is unique from a console which is unique from a tablet. Those aren't all launching at the same time, and that is clearly not "going buh-bye."

Eh...

Like, I can see that too, but I don't know. As popular as toys to life games are, they do only have a very specific type of audience they target. I think it would definitely be a massively successful game, but I don't see a game like that being the Nintendogs/Wii Sports analog for the NX. I can see a lot of people tuning out as soon as they here they need to buy toys to play it.

So basically, I agree that a game like that will happen, I agree that amiibo will have a much greater focus on the NX (for fucking worse, but still), and I even think it could launch with the NX, but I don't think it'll be enough to kind of knock the NX into mainstream relevancy the way Wii Sports did the Wii. That being said, I do like the idea of Nintendo brute force launching the NX on their brand power alone, which an "Amiibo Universe" would do.

I don't think iOS devices support NFC, so I'm not sure how that would work.

I mean, a lot of us would, but I don't see how that alone would be a killer app for anyone.
