If it came out on the GameCube. It would have sold slightly better. If it came out on the WII/DS it would have sold a ton more. That would have been the only difference.

It would have killed it in sales because I don't remember anyone playing online with the gamecube; let alone trying to share some levels for people to play them.

I don't see the connection between those two games. Maybe it's because I'm tired xD
But anyway, if SMM came before maybe we would have by now a lot of sonic maker, rayman maker, megaman maker...
Look what's happened with all the minecraft clones. Even dragon quest made a clone so I can totally see mario maker clones in a year or less who knows.
