Forums - Nintendo - Half-Life 2 on Wii

So I was playing Half-Life 2 on my PC, 1152x864, everything maxed out, and besides texture detail (which is pretty bad now) it still looks amazing.

I know Half-Life 2 was released for the original Xbox, so I was curious to how it would look on it, and consequently, how it would look on the Wii (as they are similar in power). I turned down the resolution to 720x576, most things on low/medium and turned HDR to bloom. This is the result:

Conclusion: it should be able to run on the Wii at a solid 30 fps no problem. Episode 1 and Portal would also work. Hell, even Team Fortress should be easy to put onto the Wii. So where's Orange Box for Wii, gentlemen?

To much work to port it especially the controls;.?

but, ur "demonstration" prove absolutely nothing to the possibilty to port HL2 (or others) to the Wii

it is what I think

Time to Work !

The Xbox version does not look that good

I think it could run on the wii at 50fps>. The wii is at least 2 times more powerful than the original xbox and if you look at the minimum requirements for hl2
1.7 GHz Pentium 4
512 MB system RAM
DirectX 8 compatible video card
You could tell that the wii's processor is at least equivalent to a 1.7ghz P4 , because it is alot more efficient than a pentium 4. I would say it's even more powerful. The wii has less ram , but it's ram is alot faster than what was available making that almost equivalent. I don't see the video card as a problem , because if they have something on it that the wii can't do they could just take that out. I would say the wii would even be able to do the recommended requirements which only change with a 2.4ghz processor. So it would run at most 50fps. It is also running on the lowest resolutions possible which saves some of the wear on the hardware for other things. So we may see an orange box for the wii.

wouldn't it have to be even lower resolution on wii like 480p? Or is that the pal resolution? (what res does the wii have in pal coubtries anyway?)Do you think that would be worth it? Honestly I doubt that people would buy it in great numbers. People who like hl2 most likely are not wii owners anyway or have a pc/ps3/360 for their fps games.(totally unscientific hypothesis)

That is pal. 576p.

@ sc94597: you really can't compare PC requirements with console specs. Half-Life needs 512MB of RAM because to even be able to run your basic OS like Windows 95 and all processes that are going on you'd need 128MB ram.

@ Kyros: Pal resolution for the Wii is 720x576, yeah.

The Wii can not produce these kind of graphics. Everyone knows that the Wii capacity was maxed out a long time ago:

Someone needs to make an FPS puzzle game for the Wii already, something like Penumbra.
