Forums - Sony - Star Ocean 5 TGS Trailer + glorious GIFs

I like how you have 7 ppl on your actuve party. I wonder how theyll balance combat with you having such a large team, but its refreshing that you can take the whole gang to a figth rather than picking only 2 partenrs and leaving the others sitting in an inn.

Also what consoles are the games on?

SO 1 and 2 on PS1 (so might be able to get from the store), 3 on PS2, 4 on 360 and PS3. 1 and 2 got rereleases/revamps on PSP.

Star Ocean 1 is on Super Famicom.  The PSP version is a complete remake to Star Ocean The Second Story style of graphics and a closer resemblance of gameplay.  Great series that started going downhill starting with the third.

I came to say this. SO1 was never on the PS1.

Played both versions of SO1 (great game,  it's on my top 4 SNES games) and haven't played any other yet. The loooooooooooong and booooriiiiiiing dialogues in the beginning of Second Story have pushed me off the game three times already...

Looks amazing, hoping for 2016 release in NA.

They've already said its 2016 and considering Feb is the Japan release date, it's definitely coming to US in 2016.

"There is only one race, the pathetic begging race"

I've been really apprehensive about getting excited for this, but this is looking great

I'm not familiar with this series, but this game looks interesting, how does its over-all gameplay compared to the likes of Kingdom Hearts?

By the way, the thing that puts me off about this game is its character design, especially the little pink-haired girl, she's ugly as fuck. Seriously, I'd take Xenoblade X faces over those things any day.

I'm now filled with determination.

WTB revival of the JRPG like the SNES + PS1 days.

Having watched the gameplay videos, I like what I see quite a lot. Looks quite good.

However, there's one thing I have to get off my chest: Nintendo, *why* isn't this on Wii U? I know this is Square's game so the initial platforms it launches on is up to them, but Nintendo really, really needs to get aggressive with courting 3rd parties. Heck, offer to fund and do the port yourself. Offer to fund the work to localize said port yourself. This and Dragon Quest XI could run on Wii U, anyone can see that looking at the graphics with a discerning eye. This and DQXI would be perfect to bring over to follow up on the launch of Xenoblade Chronicles X and Genei Ibun Roku #FE, to continue to build up the number of RPGs available. And would help bolster 2016 offerings and give a good show next E3 and during Directs. And before people point out NX, this is as much about changing Nintendo's image as it is bolstering Wii U sales. You want to end a gen with a bang, not a whimper. Having a diversified lineup plus stronger ties with some key 3rd parties (Square Enix, for example) would help them move forward smoothly.

I know this is only tangentially to the topic at hand, but it's just something I've been thinking for a while. Nintendo just lets Sony walk away with games being exclusively on PS3 and now PS4 in Japan when they should be aggressively fighting to strengthen relations, especially while they still have an install base advantage in Japan. That's how Sony has done it from the start; heck that's how Playstation *got* its start. Gotta be aggressive. Fortune favors the bold, not the complacent.

It's crazy to me how much better SO5 looks than SO4. Really looking forward to seeing how this one plays out.

While I see your point and can agree. Wiiu is dead. Best to accept that Nintendo accepts that.

Probably for nx

Like I said, it's not just about the Wii U.  It's about image.  It's about bolstering people's perception of the brand now so that they don't have to sell everyone on in it one year of build up to the next console launch.  Plus, the Wii U demonstrated quite clearly that ports of year old multiplat games don't impress anyone as launch titles :P

However, I do agree that they should also reach out to 3rd parties to work out some big NX 3rd party launch and first year titles.  Square Enix could create an HD, console Bravely game, Mistwalker could create an RPG (or revive that Cry On game), an HD console Monster Hunter, get some heavy hitters and show pieces in there.  Diversify the lineup from the word go.  And games like Star Ocean 5 and DQXI wouldn't hurt, but there needs to be more, new stuff.

Star Ocean 2 Second Evolution is coming to the Vita and the PS4. I already own it for PSX and PSP, but I'll pick it up for PS4. Seems a bit greedy that Square Enix isn't offering First Departure and Second Evolution as an HD Collection though.

Star Ocean 2 has one of the best storylines in an RPG and it's also one of the best RPGs if you can just get past the long opening sequence. If you haven't played it or if you just weren't able to make it past the opening, start the game as Rena instead of Claude. You get to see the game through Rena's point of view and the beginning of the game is almost an hour shorter. Rena also gets the better character of the two, even though for that type, the character is worse than three other characters you can acquire throughout the game(and that you'll have before you acquire this specific character.)  I like to play through both storylines and get each character so one game I'll get these characters, the other I'll get the other characters.
