Forums - Nintendo - So, what were your expectations on Wii U in regards of success?

So, what did you expect for the Wii U?

Success 18 10.47%

Moderate Success 71 41.28%

Proud Third Place 45 26.16%

Complete Failure 38 22.09%

Total:172

I expected it to do better than it has, but I still expected it to be a failure.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Never really followed sales until late 2014, so I had low expectations already :p

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

I used to lurk vgc for many years and I remember joining this site pretty much because the Wii u released. Since the reveal I felt the thing wouldn't sell Wii level, beating the N64 seemed like a safe bet but we can see how wrong I and most people was

I did expected at least 30m but knew it wouldnt win this gen. That said, I doubt anyone could have predicted the wii u current numbers

After the runaway success of the Wii and DS it's hard to imagine many people predicting back in 2012 that the Wii U would sell less than 50 million. If I had made a prediction back then I definitely would have pinned the Wii U closer to the Wii than to the Gamecube and I would have been dead-wrong.

There was a thread back then when one guy predicted 40m and most nintendo fans jumped at him like if he was a crazy person.  It turns out, he was right.

I expected Gamecube I am surprised it's doing worse than that. But its not over yet still making good games and its still selling so who knows. But with the name and the weak specs I totally expected it to do way worse than the competition. Honestly my biggest surprise this generation is how bad xbox one is doing.

Funny thing is, at the time the Wii U was revealed, I wasn't so fluent with english and didn't notice it had released until 2013, yeah, I think that's bad considering that every single console I'd ever owned at the time were Ninty's, with the exception of the 360 which I bought back in 2011, regardless, when I first saw the thing I thought that it was fucking stupid and predicted that people wouldn't give a shit about it the same way people stopped KNOWING that the Wii had EXISTED past 2009. Seems that my gut was right.

I'm now filled with determination.

Makes no difference what my expectations where for the system. What matters is what Nintendo expected of the system. Unfortunately they didn't reach those goals, as surmised by their projections, they were way off and well below.
Great system, performed well below expectations. =failure (unfortunately)

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

I thought it would sell well.

I also didn't know anything about anything regarding video games at the time. Some of my posts were embarrassing. I even frequented player essence and Wii U Daily. I was a mess. I have grown.

All I knew was that it wasn't going to beat the Wii.
