Forums - Nintendo - Star Fox Zero director comments on the game’s visual style

Whoever though it would be a good idea to use the gamepad to aim with, and seeing things from inside the cockpit, requireing double rendering of the intire game.... was a moron.

Wii U games arnt supposed to barely look better than gamecube games. Its bad design choices, imo.

When we say "look alike", we're talking about ultra realistic shaders. I'm a 3D Major. I know a bit about texturing and shaders. It's nothing against the games although they all resonate with a gritty look, it's more about the engines used to render the games (Unreal) and overall the shaders. I had this rant with Kingdom Hearts 3 and Dragon Quest XI. They look insanely similar because they're both cartoon games running on Unreal. The only artistry seen is in the character design. The rest is just ya know...."Unreal it". True, the games look great but most games I see my friends playing look dark, gritty, photorealistic. I'm not saying I don't like that style because I do at times. It's like to me, everything looks like a super Lambert fest. Everything is just trying to look too real and with that, a part of creativity dies along with it.

You do know many companies (especially the big ones) create different engines to run different games. To say that all realistic games look the same is plain stupid. realism =/= dark gritty. Just check out pikmin for an excellent example. There are many games that may have similar textures, but the fact that every game tries to create its own unique setting is what truly makes them look different.

Well, yes I know that. Final Fantasy XV uses its own engine, Luminous, and it looks great. Please don't call people stupid just because you don't understand it. I have my thoughts and you have yours. Can you tell me which game is which without looking it up?

I mean, if I didn't play games, I wouldn't know either. They look so similar it isn't funny.

Compared to... I dunno...

or even:

Yeah, that's kind of a cheap shot but you get what I'm saying? If not, that's okay because you formed your own opinions as have I. Have a good day.

Imagine if the rest of the developers start making this excuse.

Santa Monica Studios: God of War looks like a Ps2 game now because its cooler than those ugly realistic graphics yall!

IMO: Thats just a cheap excuse for a cash grab low budget game selling at 60$. At the end of the day, Knights will defend this graphics saying that the almighty Miyamoto is right.

Thats why i dont have any hope on the NX, much less it being a graphics powerhouse. Whats the point of the console having the best specs when the lead developer of Nintendo diss "realistic" graphics aka high budget, technically impressive graphics?

All i can do is smdh like almost every single PR from Nintendo.

I'd prefer 60fps rather than 30fps with a really nice looking game..

No, It wasn't a moron. Miyamoto may be many things, but definitely not a moron. I'd like to play the game first to judge myself if it was a bad design choice or not.

If Miyamoto is only talking about pure photo-realistic games, then I suppose I can see what he means. I mean, if the style is trying to imitate reality, then I would definitely expect said games to look similar. Seeing as how...you know...there's only one reality.

That being said, if he's implying that every game out there uses that style, then obviously he's in the wrong. I personally don't care for photo-realistic games, and there's still plenty out there for me to play on multiple platforms.

Seeing as how varied this reality is, that point is moot. Crysis aims for realism, as does The Order: 1886, and they don't look at all alike.

Most people are going to be looking at the GamePad, given how the mechanic is shown and how many people look at the GamePad at events.

I much prefer the nostalgic visuals with the flawless 60fps performance. A game like Starfox needs lightening reflexes, and having higher detailed graphics but inconsistent framerates would detract from the experience. I think the graphics look fine, and are befitting to the game.

First things first, I never called anyone stupid. I said the claim that all realistic games look the same is stupid. Big difference.

I haven't played any of the games above, so I can't talk about them. However they all seem to be from the same genre of gaming, namely action adventure. Makes sense that they would look similar no? However, the statement the devs gave was about realism in general. Literally all genres.

Unless you think that any of these games look similar, I would stop listening to a dev that loves to generalize the competition to make his game look better by comparison

I don't care what the graphics look like, just give me loads of enemies on-screen to shoot down.
