Forums - Sales - Can the WiiU outsell the PS Vita?

Probably just. The Wii U still has 3 or 4 AAA games to help boost it. The Vita has bugger all and is just surviving on JRPGs with ridiculous titles and indie games.

zelda is the only AAA game. Pokken, SMT x FE (jrpg by the way), xenoblade (jrpg), project treasure and star fox aren't AAA when put next to games like COD, Fallout, MGS, etc.

Vita also has compatibility with ps4 (gives it a lead in europe), and those jrpgs are what give it the lead in japan

You guys must be crazy. I'm sorry, but I just can't believe what I'm seeing here!

Vita has got a massive (when we're talking about these two bomba consoles) lead and Wii U is about to be killed and all support from Nintendo is to be dropped. The difference is almost a quarter of lifetime Wii U sales!! A quarter!!

There is no way in hell Wii U outsells Vita. The very day that Nintendo announces the next console, Wii U stops selling. Vita won't be replaced in years (if ever) and it still has many games from big franchises coming. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, the new Minecraft, Ys, Digimon, VLR3, etc. These games will move consoles in Japan and we are about to get a bunch of new announcements on TGS. You guys are underestimating Vita so badly, you should be ashamed of yourself.

On the other hand Wii U is only getting crappy Amiibo grames, Pokken, SMTxFE and its swan song in Zelda U, which will be a multiplat either way. That's a recipe for outselling Vita? Right. Get real people.

This!!!
People always say that Vita has bad support though it has a much better support than Wii U.
Playstation Vita is getting Dragon Quest: Builders, Dragon Quest: Heroes 2, Legend of Heroes 1+2, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, Digimon World: Next Order, God Eater: Resurrection, Ys 8, Zero Escape 3, World of Final Fantasy and so much more big games...
Wii U is not even getting a quarter of these great games!

Tell me number of this games that are exclusives!?

Vita only have Japanese multiplats and Indies, Wii U still have full support of Nintendo and have Indies, and guess what, all Nintendo games are exclusives. Like or not, Vita is device only for Indie and Japanese multiplats, on other hand Wii U is full of great Nintendo exclusives.

Only reason why Vita will be sold better on the end is because it will have much longer life (of course without any Sony support), Nintendo home console have life span around 5 years and PSP had life of almost 10 years. Also, probably it will be last Sony handheld and Sony will keep producing Vita only because they have profit on hardware while they dont have any investment from software side.

You are just making assumptions why Vita will sell more than Wii U in the end, its not as if Nintendo has many big hitters left for Wii U, they've run out of gas when it comes to system seller exclusives for Wii U, other than Zelda U. Even if both are discontinued at the same time Vita will probably have the lead.

I remember that time when this was a given, right now I don't see it. WiiU can get close but I will say nope

Maybe but that was more due to the demographics on this site than actual consumer interest.

Wii U sells a lot better than vita during holidays

Wii U sells 10X better than vita on USA while the other regions Vita sells with a small advantage

Vita has 1 year advantage yet the LT sales of both devices are almost identical

Nintendo support Wii U with more notable games

Vita support resume in Niche Japoneses games and Fifa

My answer: I don't know. Nobody knows Vita sales, this thing can still come with more 2M from undertracking bc reasons

They've had the same number of "Holidays" in the West as Vita only actually launched 8 months before the Wii U in the West.

Wii U was also at 3.5m within a couple of months of release. So long term sales have slown down greatly.

As you say though, it's pretty much impossible to figure out if it remains so close simply from there being no official figures for Vita sales. It also no longer gets FIFA and FIFA 15 is pretty much the second best selling Vita game of the last 12 months behind MineCraft outside Japan.

There are a few medium tier exclusives still to hit though such as Digimon (2nd Japanese one). It really does depend how long Sony decide to keep supporting it. I did notice the demo of FIFA 16 actually has a specific section for Vita configuration now. I guess they figured Vita owners will also have a PS4 and play the game in their house rather than on the move.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Indeed, the initial predictions were that it would stomp ahead of the Vita in the first 6 months of release.

Now all the big guns have been and gone and the Wii U has failed to gain a meaningful traction to be able to pull ahead.

This holiday will be very interesting. Will the Wii U see it's usual holiday surge?

Someone said looks like Sony have quietly discontinued Vita due to bundles. Those bundles are available without a system too. It's like £29.99 for an 8gb memory card with 4-5 decent higher end Vita games and some lower budget stuff. The hardware itself has been very resilient price-wise stubbornly staying around the £150 mark. There is a good scope for a drop to sub £100 and a bit of a push in 2016 if they were really clearing out inventory.

I think they're just keeping it chugging along. They're shifting consoles without taking a loss and the games are a slow but sure money spinner (they're just getting royalties of 3rd party sales for the most part at this stage) this latter part is something the Wii U is enjoying nowhere near as much.

SCEE Spain have also confirmed they have some other titles in development that have not yet been confirmed and are surprised at the success of the system there.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Would be funny if it didn't.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

The lack of FIFA 16 is said, but the lack of local multiplayer on the Vita version of FIFA is even worse. If they patched it in, PlayStation TV would become the ultimate FIFA-Box and it could actually start selling in Europe. I know a few people who'd pick it up to be able to take it anywhere and play FIFA with their friends. There is no other home console that fits in a pocket and is this portable. It would be perfect for any kind of trips to places where there is a TV. Such a missed opportunity.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
