Forums - Sales Discussion - When's the next time the DS falls to second in the US or Japan?

What I'm asking when will be the next time the DS falls to second in monthly sales in the US or weekly sales in Japan. Honestly I don't see it happening in either market this year. The Wii is probably the only system that has the ability to perform the tast in the near future but I don't see supply being strong enough. Now if you really want to grasp for straws you might say the 360 could do it September, Halo 3 month. Very unlikely though. Sure it will give the 360 a nice spike in sales, but it would have to double monthly sales to match what the DS is doing and that's not going to happen.

If I had to guess I think it happens early 2008 in the US when supply situations with the Wii are pretty much solved. In Japan it might not happen until mid to late 2008 just because DS sales are so insane week to week right now. Heck Japan has barely solved DS shortages, so Wii shortages are going to be prevelent for a while.

I'd have to take a look at the DS release list for August, September, and October, cause those are big months for the consoles.

Off the top of my head I believe Zelda is coming in October, and Brain Training 2 is coming sooner, and it's even getting some action oriented games like Ninja Gaiden. It really seems like the system is getting better third party support. And it certainly doesn't need to compete with consoles with big games. As long as a steady stream of games keeps coming out for the system it will be fine and remain the best selling system out there.

I'm certain no one will pass it in Japan, that's a given. But in the US, Halo 3, GTAIV, Super Mario Galaxy, Assassin's Creed, Lair, Heavenly Sword, and a slew of other titles I'm probably forgetting are launching for the Big 3. I have my doubts about the PS3 passing it, but 360's chance is very real in Halo 3. Lord knows what it could do. I would like to see the DS be unseated for a month. Realistic? *shrugs* Let's just say I wouldn't bet my life on it ;)

I'd give it being passed for a week on halo 3 week, other than that tho, probably not.  Japan, Not till DS2 or whatever is launched.

Actually, according to NPD the Wii sold more units than the DS in Canada for April, could we be in for a big surprise tonight and see the same in the US?
