Forums - Sony - PS3 lens problem (cant read any discs)

Why is it so hard for Companies to make sure that the products we buy last more than a year? Sony and MS you should be ashamed. Yeah googled it to. Seems a widespread problem. Anyways just ask any 360 owner, just send it back and wait patiently. Unfortunately thats all you can do. :(

^^It's not a widespread issue by any means ,,,It happens ,as it can happen with anyother electronic device ,,no where near RROD.

I find it funny that people open a new account here(especially lately),on a Sale website, to just tell us that their PS3 is broken ,,,something is fishy to say the least.

^^ agree that it's not a big problem - it happens. 1-3% of PS3 owners having problems is not a big deal but still a lot of people are affected by it.

No one is going to bitch about it unless Sony makes them pay a lot of money to fix it.
I would like to know how much it costs to fix this problem - I would think it to be around $100.

Also, i agree that there might be something fishy going on here.

yeah, I'm paid to create accounts on websites and talk about this problem... (I'm being sarcastic!)

Just wanted to know if this is a widespread problem, that's it. No conspiracy theory, jeez... I like my PS3 and can't wait for GTA and MGS!

Happy?

Elaine: I will never understand people

Where did I say it was as bad as RRoD? If you work out how many people are posting this on the internet(google it theres quite alot) and that would be a minor percentage of people who actually own PS3's(as majority of people wouldnt post on these forums), then it is more widespread than you think. It's just annoying for the consumer. Especially when it costs over £200.

where do you get that 1-3% from? that guy that has 2 friends with the problem must be really unlucky...

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

All drives have a certain percentage that go bad. It sucks, but it happens. I thought mine was going in that it had some issues for a couple days - like it would work sometimes and notothers - and then it mysteriously went away.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

It's fairly easy to six. Take $Us400, walk to your local store and buy a new PS3

So thats how xbots deal with your defective hardware ?

This is sad.  I hope I don't see this error...

Nope, luckily no problem, dusting my PS3 off every week and will do a fan blow every week / 2 weeks from now on. It will clean out all the dust from out of the PS3. Perhaps your PS3 is standing in a very narrow place, without enough cooling space?

Edit: strangely enough I hear this more with 40GB consoles... I have one too *eeks*, just hope it will never happen with mine.
