Forums - Gaming - How much money did you "give" Steam?

Hm ... from the Steam Database, the "Price/Hour" figure seems to be based off the list price for the game, not the price I paid. Many of those games, I grabbed at 50% off or more. I mean, Portal 2 is listed as $19.99 but I got it free with the PS3 version. This isn't going to be very accurate, then, in terms of money.

I think it becomes kinda iffy when you don't consider sales. I know my whole Steam library is worth 731$, but I haven't paid close to that much to get it. L4D2 for instance I got for free.

I'll use the values I paid for them:

Oblivion Game of the Year Deluxe - 15$
Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition - 5$
Crysis+Crysis Wars+Crysis Warhead+Crysis 2 Maximum edition (bundle) - 15$
Portal (was in a bundle with Portal 2 for 5 $, but I completed Portal 2, so let's say 2.5$ for Portal 1) - 2.5$
Spore + all extra content (sigh, why did I buy this?) - 15$
XCOM: Enemy Unknown - 10$
Skyrim - 15$
Risk of Rain - 5$
Dark Souls Prepare to Die edition - 6$
Castle Crashers - 1$
Race the Sun - 3$

In total 92.5$

I was surprised to see how much it actually was, thought I had wasted way less

It was kinda funny to see that my first christmas sale was also the one where I wasted the most. That's when I bought Skyrim, TW2, Oblivion, Crysis, Spore, XCOM and Dark Souls, which amount to 81$ of the 92.5$. Since then I've basically only bought games I really wanted.

Those savings, though...

4 ≈ One

23% of my games are unplayed, not that bad actually =P

The Polynomial & Riven are two games I bought that I barely played (20-30 minutes).
£1.49 + £1.99

There are some "games" I haven't played much (if at all) that came in a bundle but I consider part of other games, e.g. Half-Life Lost Coast & Deathmatch... I won't count these.

Then there are some games from bundles I never really intended to play (Tomb Raider 1-6, some of the Star Wars bundle)
TR bundle was £8.99 for 10 games, so £0.90 x 5 games (original TR I did play for a couple of hours)
SW bundle was £17.49 for 14 games, so £1.25 x 6 games

And finally there are a few from the Star Wars bundle that I have yet to play, plus Tomb Raider reboot which won't run on my current laptop.
TR reboot = £0.90
SW unplayed = £1.25 x 6 games

So I guess approximately £24.

Though given how high my hours per £ are on most of the other games I don't feel cheated in any way.... Total time played is approx 2270h - 2300h (sometimes it fails to log) and money spent is around £140, around 6p per hour.

To be fair, it's only going up as I've only had a decent gaming PC for a few months. But I've been grabbing things cheap as and when. Also had a few games from humble bundle etc.

A good chunk of my unplayed stuff is just things I haven't got around to playing yet.

I choose not to think about it.

... when your total cost with sales is higher than what you have spent on Steam

How is that possible?
