Forums - Nintendo - Do you think the WiiU still has a chance of topping the game catalogue of the Wii, do you think it already did, or that it can't? Wii Vs WiiU thread

Which console seems to position itself with a history of better software?

Wii 35 20.23%

WiiU 59 34.10%

Can't say yet, WiiU's life is not over yet 40 23.12%

No matter what's left fo... 25 14.45%

Can't decide until I play Zelda WiiU and XCX 11 6.36%

Tie 3 1.73%

Total:173

Oh... Wii. I haven't played many Wii U games yet, I'm looking forward to purchase a few older and upcoming releases. But I doubt it'll top Fragile Dreams, Tales Of Symphonia, Pandora's Tower, Arc Rise Fantasia, The Last Story, No More Heroes, MadWorld, Excitebots Trick Racing, Mortal Kombat, The Naruto Clash Of Ninja series, The Dragon Ball Series, Super Monkey Ball, Sonic Colors, Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, The House Of The Dead, Resident Evil series, Dead Space, Trauma Center series, WWE series, Castlevania Judgment, Godzilla Unleashed, Cursed Mountain... So on and so forth. And yes, pretty much the lack of good third party games is what keeps Wii U below Wii, in my opinion.

The Wii will always be better for me unless the Wii U gets a Paper Mario game which isn't likely.

I don't think that Wii U will ever catch up to the Wii, no third party support and the absence of some franchises I enjoy, like Metroid, Fire Emblem, Punch Out!! or Paper Mario will be difficult to overcome. I love Splatoon and The Wonderful 101, and I'm eagerly awaiting the new Star Fox, but it's simply not enough.

Besides 3D Mario, I think Wii U has a better line up in every iteration of each franchise (available). Sadly, no real Animal Crossing and no Metroid, but there's Yoshi and Star Fox.

The answer will be different depending on who you ask anyway. My answer? Wii U > Wii, but not by much. Specially since I didn't get to play many of the gems it has... this could be debated for days!

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I prefer the Wii U's games. I mean for one, it does have Bayonetta 1 and 2, The Wonderful 101, Splatoon... all amazing games.

However, the Wii right now is more practical for RPG's. But when SMT x FE and Xenoblade X release, I feel like I will love the Wii U more. (Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem are my two favorite franchises and this collaboration is probably going to make it one of my all time favorite games ever. But that's just me personally)

Both consoles have good lineups.

Personally, I prefer the Wii U's overall.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

The wii just has so many hidden gems that were overlooked. All the Wii us good games are out in the open, and had iterations on the wii.
So no, the wii u can never beat the wii imo

Wow, first post absolutely nails it.

And yeah, I fully agree with this.  Wii got a brand of niche Japanese support that is just completely absent on WiiU and it made for some of my favourite games on the console.  Little King's Story; Muramasa; Fragile Dreams; No More Heroes 2.  Plus there's still some stuff I've been meaning to try on Dolphin (since they never released in Europe) like Shiren the Wanderer and Arc Rise Fantasia.

And you know, now I think about it, there was third-party support from the west too that had me interested.  The kind of stuff that doesn't normally appear on consoles like SimCity Creator & Anno: Create a new world.

It's not going to go down as one of my favourite consoles in history, but I do think it has a legitimate back-catalogue of diverse stuff that got completely ignored at the time.  And that's definitely what WiiU seems to be lacking (I don't own one, so maybe I'm wrong on that, but everything I see recommended for it are stuff I was already aware of).

More than likely but we will have to see the Wii had some hidden gems like Fragile Dreams, Rune Factory and Little King's Story.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

Wii U still has some life left with some upcoming games, including the fan awaited Zelda game and Xenoblade Chronicles X (if you don't live in Japan), but still there's the fact that the NX is breathing heavy behind the WiiU's neck, saying: "Move bitch, get out the way!"

So maybe WiiU still has some heavy hitters left, even after the NX announcement, but it is very apparent that the shift of focus from Nintendo towards their next console is inminent, and Nintendo pretty much carries their consoles with their software.

So this thread invites Nintendo fans to reflect on both the videogames that the Wii got, the WiiU got and still has left and to say which console, the Wii or the WiiU has had in your opinion a more satisfactory videogame library at this point in time.

Do you think the WiiU has not topped Wii's library? The Wii overall line-up is superior to that of the WiiU?

Do you think the WiiU still has a chance to outdo the Wii's line-up? That the upcoming games for the WiiU can be a game-changer?

Maybe you think the WiiU has already surpassed what the Wii offered?

What do you think?

"but it is very apparent that the shift of focus from Nintendo towards their next console is inminent"

How? Wii U still getting releases and announcements certainly doesn't make that apparent.
