Forums - Gaming - Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launches 23rd February 2016

Do not, I repeat, do NOT preorder Deus Ex. For those who aren't paying attention, they are literally holding content for ransom. Look at the 'pre-order' setup. This is a very, very bad precedent to set, and absolutely NOONE should adopt it. We see a great deal of complaints about how heavily the industry monetizes things, well, we're the checks and balances for that.

Seems SE really hates EA.

Well I was about to pre-order.. why should I miss out on that extra stuff?

My opinion?  Because mass adoption of this kind of preorder horseshit, only encourages every other company to do so.  People complain and gripe about the monetization of the industry, but completely disregard any steps they can take, to show these companies they disprove of the tactic.  Companies exist to make money, the consumer is the only thing that can signal to them they are going in a direction the community won't adopt.

I don't really mind pre-order bonuses or dlc, I pay when I want, and I don't have the energy to complain about these things. But you make a valid point so what the hell, I´ll join giving the signal and won't pre-order :) Stick it to the man!

Yeah I actually think 2016 early is worse than the xmas period right now. Fortunately Dead Island 2 crashed and burned otherwise that would have been out then also.

Someone should make a list... but we have that I know of?

Quantum Break?
Deus Ex
Mirrors Edge
Xcom 2
Lego Marvels Avengers
Homefront
The Division

I'm sure I've missed some

Dark Souls III

Uncharted 4

Street Fighter V

ReCore

All aiming for or rumoured to be Q1

Can't believe I forgot UC4... and funny enough the announced a release date today...lol.

So UC4 is now on that list for March.

Good on you, very good on you.  It's difficult to restrain ourselves from ordering something we want, but sometimes you have to look at the precedent that would be set.  We've seen a great deal of issues arise from this, with the lack of foresight people exhibit throughout the years, and I personally don't think it's done the industry or gamers any favors.

Plus, let's be honest, releasing the game 4 days early, seems like the dumbest pre-order bonus I've ever heard of.  I mean, that should be a newcomer to the Mt. Rushmore of idiotic ideas.

Ok, so they've both adopted the dumbest preorder I've ever heard.   It's a shitty practice, and buying into it is a terrible thing for the industry.

Well I never said it was a good idea, but yes, even I am getting sick of it... and I buy lots of games. But then when you have fools who are prepared to buy the game second hand for $1 cheaper, I guess they have to do something.... even though I dont like it, I suspect gamers have to take some of the blame here.
