Every metroid game is a reboot of sorts. I dont really think it needs one (nor do i think it matters one way or another because theres so little story). It just needs to come back.

What? No they aren't. They all follow cronological canon. The only outlier is the Prime series which is an inconcequential side story, but even that has a place in the cronology.

And there is plenty of story in Metroid. That's the problem. It's such a mess now.

No. No. And no.
First off, there's nothing wrong with Samus being a pretty and sexualized girl. You play 100% of the game in her suit, so doesn't matter how big are her boobs or how pretty is her face. In fact, it shows that also pretty people is capable of awesome things. Your proposal for the zero suit is just disgusting. Horrible. Terrible. Words can't say how bad is the idea.
Secondly, Metroid doesn't need a reboot. What Metroid needs is to be honest and fix everything wrong with Other M because there's a lot of potential in the mix of 3D and 2D series. They can start with an isolated game with a new refined mechanics of Other M. No orders, no Adam, no NPC's. Just Samus exploring a complete planet, Pirate's Stronghold.
The only thing I agree is that should be scary again. Love u Prime 2.

Samus was prettier and still sexualized before. That's not the issue. Samus looks like an otaku's pervy fantasy now. The problem isn't that she's sexy, its that she looks rediculus. She looks like a blow up anime sex doll. There shouldn't even be a zero suit. That whole premise is idiotic. It adds nothing to her character or her arsenal, and only is there for easy cosplay. But if she wears something in her Power Suit, it definitely shouldn't be a bright blue spandex leotard. The Kim Bessinger Samus wore underwear, boots, and a tank top. In Super, she wore nothing, because the suit was bonded with her. In Zero Mission and beyond, she's wearing an aqua S&M body suit. There is definitely something wrong with the oversexualization of her now. It doesn't match her original character at all, which was amazonian. She was tall, and strong, and athletic. Now she looks like a skimpy highschool cheerleader.

You can't "fix" Other M and Fusion and Zero Mission. They are cannot and the garbage and plot inconsistancies they introduced in the story are canon. They can't be ignored or fixed. That's the thing about storytelling. Everything is permanent. You can't "no Adam" because he's indegral to Metroid now. You can't "no NPCs" because people like the GFT and the hunters are integral to the canon of Metroid now.

A reboot is desperately needed.

It doesn't affect anyone nor the image of the franchise if Samus is naked. At the end of the day, people will remind their battles against Metroids rather than the sexy ass of Samus. For that kind of pervert content there's Smash.

And, we don't need a reboot, and I'm not talking about forgetting Other M. I'm talking about a sequel with the premise of my latest post.

Metroid is NOT a good option saleswise. It just doesn't have the selling power of about... let's say every other Nintendo franchises. It costs lots to produce and I'm pretty sure there is no financial viability. It's not cost-efficient like Pikmin (smaller scale) or Splatoon.

It sells more than a lot of Nintendo franchises that keep getting new games... As for Pikmin, it uses very realistic graphics, so I doubt it's as cost-efficient as you think. The latest game had a much longer development time than any Metroid game ever had.

In fact, it took Retro Studios longer to make the Donkey Kong Country games than it did with the Metroid Prime games. I seriously doubt making the Prime games was more expensive.

Metroid Prime 1: 2002

Metroid Prime 2: 2004 (2 year gap)

Metroid Prime 3: 2007 (3 year gap)

Donkey Kong Country Returns: 2010 (3 year gap)

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze: 2014 (3.5 years gap)

The development teams of the DKC games were also bigger than the teams working on Metroid Prime 1-3.

I think the only thing Metroid needs is a 2.5D, sequel to Fusion called Metroid Dread.

A westernized reboot is really not what Metroid needs right now.

The only thing Metroid needs is a fucking good game.

Metroid should either be 2D or 3D in first person...

Go play Gears of Wars or something.

Why so many people want Metroid to be something it's not is baffling.  Metroid is NOT a shooter.

Metroid games simply look silly in third person (3D). It completely breaks the immersion these games are famous for.

As for the Batman games, they're good, but they're what I call "Metroid for babies" games. The combat basically consists of spamming the same button over and over again. Metroid is about isolation as well, Batman isn't.

Metroid was not a FPA... until it was.  Why do you want it to be something it wasn't?

I feel a turn to 3rd person shooter is a return to Metroid's roots.  Now to clarify, I don't mean pure shooter-based gameplay, but shooting should be a heavy part of the action as it was in Metroid and Super Metroid.  In a 3rd person game that can also be mixed with puzzle-solving, exploration, platforming and gadget using.  Saying 3rd person breaks the immersion in 3D but not in 2D is silly.  If you prefer the Prime series, that's fine, but there are lots of merits to being able to see your character.

With reference to Batman, the original AA game fits the Metroid mold very nicely.  Several interconnected zones, with an overall exploration goal, each zone having it's own feel and mysteries.  The overall setting was creepy and abandoned too...but not too much.  And I loved how the setting had the feel of an unsurmountable task - but one that the hero could handle.  I think Samus could fill that heroine role very nicely.

Yes, the combat in the Batman games is someone dumb.  But as you are aware, I said the fundamental combat mechanic would be changed to a second-analogue shooter.  I think this would fit the feel of Metroid and SM nicely.  Those games had some of the most precise 8-way shooting of any game for their time and running, jumping and gunning with the 2nd stick would be great.

Throw in a solid Batman: AA-level story and a new Metroid could be fantastic.

The best Metroid game I've played since SM was Batman:AA. They nailed the formula, the atmosphere, lore elements, ancient mysteries, etc. Ideally a new Metroid would be just like that game, built by a talented and dedicated studio like Rocksteady, but with the gameplay improved to be dual analog shooting in the third person. Original Metroids always had great shooting mechanics for their time.

Also, Samus should look like Kim Bassinger.

Actually, better yet would be to actually pay a modern hottie like Charlotte McKinney to appear in the game. That would draw a lot of buzz, like Upton and GoW.

Yeah, but AA isn't a platformer. They nailed the progression, but the level design and gameplay is nothing like Super. That's fine for Batman but definitely not for Metroid. To me, a perfect set up would be Infamous SS controls and super hero-like powers and platforming with a more vertical, platform heavy version of... Well actually, that kind of level design doesn't really exist in anything right now, so it would be totally new.

i definitely would rather them keep her looking like Kim. And keep her tall and Amazonian too. And keep her in her suit. Maybe she can be out in the set up. Maybe at the very end after you beat the game. Not during. Samus is a super hero, so Nintendo needs to quit unmasking her all the time for no reason.

I agree that there should be platform elements.  And Metroid, being free of reality moreso than Batman could have some epic verticle platforming elements like you describe.  I've never played Infamous so I can't really comment on that feel but I think I get what you're saying and genrally agree. There should be a mix of nice, accurate shooting with nimble character controls.

I think it might be a nice touch to have retro-inspired elements where the camera locks and you play an area of a zone in classic Metroid style, as they did in Super Mario Galaxy.
