Forums - Sony Discussion - Is PlayStation Just As Iconic As Nintendo?

There are countries out there where people don't even know that Nintendo is still in gaming. PlayStation brought gaming to the mainstream and made gaming a worldwide hobby. People know Mario and Donkey Kong because they've been around for so long in so many media. Imagine if Sony created a mascot and bundled it with all their consoles and used it for all their genre games like Hot Shots Golf, Gran Turismo, Ratchet & Clank, etc.

People saying Nintendo is more iconic probably only lived in the U.S.

You are not taking into account value though. everyone might like a tablet, but more people are vvilling to pay more for an apple tablet.

everyone might like mario but people might pay more to play something else.

I've never been so lost in my life. Your response has nothing to do with what I'm saying.

Let me spell it out for you. To be iconic you need to not only be popular (as you say) but it also needs to have value. If 600 people each spend $1000 on playstation and 601 people each spend $100 on Nintendo. Nintendo is more popular, but clearly people find Playstation more iconic.

Oh my God. You literally have no idea what you're talking about.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Price has nothing to do with this topic. That's all I have to say.

Its not about price, its about value for the brand... Including average consumer value in each product that no one here knovvs anything about.

No. It has nothing to do with value, price, anything related to that. We are talking about the word "iconic".

Definition: widely recognized and well-established (Merriam-Webster)

I believe that the Playstation Brand, is at least as iconic as the Nintendo Brand, system only. The problem that I am seeing most argue in this is that you can't include the 1st party games as part of the brand.
Why not?
The games are part of the brand as much as the sales, the reason you bought PS1 want because of the console, it was because of Final Fantasy, RE, etc... PS2 was GTA, GoW, etc... Sony has always used third party support to win their battles, third party support that they got from a failed collaboration with Nintendo.
The reason people buy Nintendo is because of the games, not just the system. In terms of Iconic status, and its mascots, Nintendo has been around a long time, and their games will be that reason, even if they went third party, they would STILL be iconic.

Why hate systems that bring you great games?

PSN: Aceburg0413

XBOX Live: Sheep of Doom13

Nintendo:  SheepofDoom13

3DS FC:  3222 - 5562 - 9867

Not even close, just take a look at PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale's lacking and pathetic roster.

And if they tried to pull off an amiibo kind of thing it would flop so hard.

Thread says playstation, not playstation characters.

this includes controller, capabilities (blu Ray, specs), ps plus, partnerships,  games, and overall name

Fuck it. I vote Atari.
