Forums - Gaming - Metal Gear Solid V: First Review

Pretty good. I will miss the old format though. The Peace Walker format is just not as engaging for me.

85 % is much less than other MGS, and it's not really the score, but what is said that is worrying, i sum up that.

I hardly see anything in the summary that is 'not as good as expected'. Besides every game gets a range of reviews, if people were expecting more than 85% then they'll get them, pretty much guaranteed that there will be a few perfect scores and at the same time some stupidly low ones as well.

Aye, and let's not forget that typically the early review is troll bait low, to garner traffic/attention to the site/company itself.  Not saying that's the case here, because nowhere is 85% a bad score, but, it's certainly something to think about.

As lame as it sounds, I literally think I play MGS games these days for story and boss fights. Any word on how those are?

I don't know why it sounds lame. Chapter three in Metal Gear Solid 4 was basically story and boss fight.

Who the hell scores with a 20 points scale?

Because the games are a hell of a lot more than that, I'm just not a massive fan of the sneaking.  It's fine, but the bosses and plot are what I always remember about the games more than anything.

The french. Worse yet, 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 17.

So :

- The prologue, the first hours are excellent, very good atmosphere, discovering gameplay richness with high quality level design is really fun, the OST fits well to the situations.

- Then the game becomes more and more repetitive, boring because of the open world not really mastered, a diluted narration and the gameplay system breaking the rythm.

- They didnt like being forced to complet a lot of side repetitive missions to progress in the main story ( that's why i compared it to Xenoblade X )

- The game lacks of variety, they felt the open world wasnt exploited at all. ( they compare with recent open world games like Batman and TW3 to say this one feels really limited in comparison )

- Cinematics are very rare, the script is vague even until the end

- Those who liked Peace Walker should like this one

- The main story takes 50h ( including all the obligatory side missions )

- MGS V is still fascinating despite all these flaws

Pretty much this

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Not bad, but maybe not the masterpiece i thought.

Peacewalker was a very boring experience for me, and it looks like that MGS5 is very similar.

Sad way to go out, but i'll still buy and play it. One day developers will stop trying to shove the tacked on "open-world" nonsense down our throat and get back to focusing on a core streamlined experience.
