Ever backed a crowd-funded game?

Never backed one, but I w... 5 8.77%

I only back games by lege... 8 14.04%

I went well over $30 for a game that didn't work out, but I knew the odds weren't good. I always donate with the understanding that it may prove wasted money.

As soon as the retro vgs hits kickstarter I'll be paying whatever I need to to get one.

No, I'd never buy something before I know that it's good.

I like the crowdfund idea and supported 66 projects so far: https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/1008526593

A third of these didn't reach their goal, but no loss... in these cases no money gets transfered.

I usually pledge between $10 and $30, depends on the scale of the project.

Ah, cool, you're cohen from ntower.

Wow, nothing less than $20. I'd love it if you'd put even $2 towards my project. Yes, I have a $2 option, because my goal is to raise $1,000 and I think a lot of people contributing $20 or less would go a long way. But we can discuss all that in thread I posted in the OP. More on topic for this thread, what was your motivation to actually back these games?

Edge of Eterinity - Always bee a JRPG fan and of late imo they genre has dried up to crap and I though it this game looks good and with a Western development of a JRPG inspiration could be promising and re-ignite my passion for this style of game and though it was worth giving them the pledge.

Crowfall - Again I grew up playing early MMO's such as Ultima Online, Legend of Mir, Myth of Soma, Lineage etc and continued playing MMO's ever since but another imo the genre has dried up to re-hashing of the same thing and been going downhill. I pledge'd to Crowfall as it seems a game that could and will hopefully bring me back to the MMO scene along with members of a gaming clan ive played with ofer the past 10-15 years also backing this project and have similar thoughts with me.

Bloodstained - Always loved Castlevania games and I was 100% sure I would grab this when it released anyway so backing the project was a no brainer for me.

Shenmue 3 - Loved the origional on the Dreamcast so again I would probably of grabbed this I wasn't going to back this and when they added physical copy as an option I backed. Having a physical copy also gives you an option of resale it disapoints or just played it to death and allows you to get some of the money back.

Shape the World - This was a weird back for me, I liked the look of it and hope the enviroment draws and had been into exploration games when I backed it and with it having (what I consider) a fairly cheap pledge persuaded me to back it.

I've done it a couple of times. Never actually played the games I backed, though. One of them was a wrestling game for PC. I don't even game on PC!

If the content looks like it will bring happiness and the devs seem to believe in it, that goes a long way with me. I'll check out your game and speak with my dollars....maybe.

None of those answers applied to me :| I backed about $150 to Yooka Laylee and close to $100 for smaller games I believed in.

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

I probably wouldn't ever give any money but if I would, the maximum I would donate is $5.

I backed Shenmue 3. $660

Video Gaming:
The Bard's Tale 4 - $95 for a physical collector's edition
Bloodstained - $150 for a physical collector's edition and art book
Yooka Laylee - $15 for a digital copy
Pier Solar HD - $49 for physical copy

Non-Video Gaming:
DemonWars Reformation (pen and paper RPG) - $50 for the hardcover rule book
DemonWars Allheart - $45 for the hardcover book (unsuccessful)

To this date, I have received my signed DemonWars RPG book, with my name written in the backer's page. Pier Solar HD was also completed and has been released digitally, but I am still waiting on the physical disc. I'm hearing rumours that it will happen in September. So yeah, none of my backed projects involved me paying any kind of money and the project not completing...yet.

I've backed five games on kickstarter so far, some of which have looked riskier to back than others. Ironically it turns out, one of the riskier investments was probably Mighty No. 9.
Shantae looks to be well on it's way to being released in the next half year. Yooka-Laylee devs are veterans that really seem to have their shit toghether and post awesome updates regularily, as does the team behind We Happy Few with their weekly work-in-progress updates.
The smallest most unknown project I've supported is Little Devil Inside, which didn't have the best of kickstarter campaigns (the Devs seemed very inexperienced with crowdfunding), but listend and responded very well to critism of both their game and campaign and did their best to improve upon their mistakes. Plus, the potential game they're going to make just looks too gorgeous to not fund it. They update monthly.

I have pledged an average of 29€ to these projects and have no regrets. I have played and loved Broken Age, Shovel Knight and Legend of Dungeon and would have been happy to have been a backer of those too. I know awesome stuff can get made thanks to kickstarter.

I also know there are risks attached with pledging money to some random Indie (or not so indie) developer, but being an artist myself I get the desire to have complete control about your artistic vision, or the frustration of getting told that what you're doing is unwanted by the market when you know that to be untrue.
I'm sceptical of this new trend of using Kickstarter as a proof of concept/interest and don't want to see big companies using kickstarter as an overglorified pre-ordering service, though. (Ironic I know, since I've backed mainly big, mainstream kickstarters...:/)
