Forums - Gaming - How Do You Use Metacritic?

I just use it to see how critics feel. I know a lot of people think Metacritic is bullshit, but it does guide people to games worth playing. People just get angry when it doesn't guide people their favorite games I guess.

If a game looking interesting to me and it scores well on Metacritic, at the very least I'll give it a try when its cheaper.

If a game looks fun you try it.

That's what I used to do as a kid, I played a lot of shitty games because of so.

Sometime a little guidance towards notable games is handy.

If I used Metacritic I wouldn't have bought and played several games that I actually liked, including the Order, and to a lesser extent Knack. Though I did wait until Knack was particularly cheap.

You can still buy games in spite of Metacritic's overall score.

I bought Ryse and enjoyed it, but I sold it not after completing because I saw little value in that game (I bought a digital copy for $10, considerably cheaper than I sold it for).

If anything, maybe a low score is an indication you should just wait for a price cut. It doesn't take long for a low scoring games to get its price cut in half. Most low scoring games aren't worth your time, but a few might be gems to you.

I generally rely on the reviews of a couple sites, and also use metacritic as a reference. Metacritic doesn't USUALLY influence my day one purchases, but it has in the past. The reviews of MGSV: ground zeroes, are what ultimately made me decide to hold off on buying it for a few months and wait for its price to go down. Reviews are also why I decided to cancel my preorder for The order. I also use it to see if I want to purchase a game I'm on the fence about. Like I decided to get Deus Ex and Shadow of Mordor because they was getting high review scores, and there's other examples of that too. I wouldn't say there's a cut and dry rule. Generally speaking, the less interest I have in the game, the more I let the reviews scores influence my decision. Like I knew I liked the killzone series, so unless it got absolutely atrocious reviews, I would have gotten shadowfall no matter what, and I in no way regret that decision. But then games that were just tiny blips on my radar, I usually won't purchase, day one at least, unless they are in the high 80's or higher. It's more on a per game basis though.

Nah I don't use it at all. If a game looks interesting enough for me I'll buy it. I don't want other peoples opinions affect me. Gaming is more fun for me this way.

Have not used it in a long time. But I generally give 80+ games a look and then decide to buy or not buy them. I also hope that certain games score decent for some publicity. But most games I like are in the 60s-70s.

I just use it out of curiosity to see what games are scoring, It never influences my purchase of games.bb

I use it for entertainment.
The red reviews are usually fun to read.
The yellow reviews are the useful ones.
Avoid the 90+ reviews, you never learn anything from them.

I rarely use it to decide if I want to buy the game or not. I usually look at some gameplay and watch some reviews (ones done by individual people not those dumbass ones like IGN or Lamespot). However, if I like the gameplay AND it has a good metascore, I'll definitely pick it up

Currently most hyped for: FFXV and Zelda U

After I bought Driveclub, I lost all faith in metacritic scores.
