Forums - Sony - Morpheus hardware ready, now just waiting on software

http://vrfocus.com/archives/20201/sce-on-project-morpheus-hmd-hardware-is-ready-to-go-were-just-waiting-for-the-game-titles/

“I’ve been working on Sony’s project Morpheus for 3 years, it’s going to go to market in 2016. It’s a bit different for things like cell phones or established technologies. When I was designing televisions it was usually 18 months to get a new model into production. A VR HMD is a bit different it also takes time for the component vendors to rampup for million unit volumes.” Adding: “In our case the HMD hardware is ready to go, we’re just waiting for the game titles to catch up with the hardware.”

Maybe we will get the official name at PSX or PGW.

I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing.

good thing certainly. hardware is done, means everything is going according to plan. as with any platform launch, launch titles are worked on until the very end. so its good that devs can work with finished hardware months before launch.

It's certainly good for the devs but what does that say about the device itself? Other manufacturers are still working with prototypes and alpha devices while Sony got it all figured out? Nothing against Sony but I doubt they're the gods of VR and have mastered it before everyone else.

So my conclusion would be that there is some fault with it and/or that they cut more or less important corners to get it ready before everyone else.

So the manufacturer that brings it first to market is because it's obviously been rushed? Cant be the first for any other reason?

Would you have said the same thing about the Vive or Occulus?

Oculus is all but done as well, with the final hardware specs confirmed, and is hitting Q1 2016, so almost certainly before Morpheus.. And with Sony's long history in hardware development, and the amount of money they have poured into this, I seriously doubt they have cut corners, and it isn't hard to believe they could have produced one of the better VR products.

Sony did say at GDC this year that they really just had some final tweaks to make and the hardware would be ready. I mean, it's specs already line up pretty well with other modern VR HMDs and remember, Sony didn't show the Morpheus until much later in it's life than Oculus showed off the Rift.

Also remember that Oculus is done with it's hardware aswell.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
